The Secretary General

Seong Jun LIM

Honourable delegates, MUN directors, guests, admins, press, and guests, My name is SeongJun LIM and it is an honour with great pleasure to serve you as Secretary General for Saigon Model United Nations 2017. The theme for this year’s SAIMUN will be “Reaching Global Consensus”. Since 2015, the themes for SAIMUN have always been related to “Goals” from the United Nations. Therefore, our student officer team and I firmly believe that this year’s theme will engage students to reflect upon a wide range of topics including ecological, economical, international, and social issues existing on a global scale. These past four years in Model United Nations (MUN) gave me excitement with interest on global issues. To me, MUN not only gave me opportunity to develop my debating skills and teach lessons about economics, politics, military, sociology, religion, culture, and many more; but also, was a chance to interact with different people from different backgrounds representing different nations. I indeed hope that your experience with SAIMUN 2017 will do the same for you. Since this Saigon Model United Nations 2017 will be my 17th conference in total and my final one in Saigon, may it be the best yet to come. Yours faithfully, SeongJun LIM

The Deputy Secretary General

In Hae HONG

Honourable delegates, esteemed student officers, and most

distinguished guests and advisors,

My name is Inhae Hong and I am currently enrolling in my last year

at the British International School, and it is my great pleasure to

serve as the Deputy Secretary General of SAIMUN 2017. This is my

12th and last conference and I am most honoured to perform this

role. The topic of “Reaching Global Consensus” might just be the

motto that the United Nations stand by. Reaching global consensus

is hard, and might seem impossible. However, once this goal is

reached, I believe that the world will be absent of injustice,

corruption, and misconduct. You as model UN’ers might be the

prime example of what it takes to reach this goal, and I hope to see

this in action in SAIMUN 2017.

MUN was, and still is one of my fondest memories of high school and I believe many of you will agree with

me. MUN is a place where new friendships are made, allies are formed and relationships bloom. As

representatives of each country, it may not seem apparent at first, but a step back from your roles will

show you that MUN is a place full of new and wonderful friendships. Of the many things you will take from

this conference, one of the most important might just be that.

Throughout the years, MUN may have been an opportunity to learn skills, improve public speaking and

adapt different roles. Now that you have gained all these cards through practice, SAIMUN 2017 will be the

chance to play these cards. Play them right and you will gain even newer and wonderful experiences.

The last message to give you is to have fun. MUN is not dull, nor it is mundane. MUN is a special time of your

school life but the only thing that actually makes it special is you, whether you are a delegate, student

officer, admin or press team. See you then.

Sincerely,

Inhae Hong

President of General Assemblies

Geun Ryeol PARK

Honourable delegates, esteemed student officers, and most distinguished guests and

advisors,

My name is GeunRyeol Park and it is a great honour to serve you as President of

General Assembly for Saigon Model United Nations 2017. This SAIMUN will be my

12th and the last conference that I will partake.

Theme for SAIMUN 2017 is “Reaching Global Consensus”. For all MUN conferences,

reaching a consensus between nations has always been an ultimate and primitive

goal. This theme will remind us again why we are doing MUN and should take it

seriously as all the topics that will be discussed are the conflicts in the real life. Our

generation has become the most intellectual as better education is provided with

developed technology that leaded to alleviate some conflicts. Through the theme, I

hope our generation could aware more of the given topics and later support to solve

these issues.
