Centre for Marketing Information and Advisory Services of Fishery Products in the Arab Region

is an intergovernmental organization

of trade in fishery and aquaculture products and for

the encouragement and promotion of investments in

the sector.

is an independent information centre.

It is an integral part of the FISH INFO network set

up by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the

United Nations (FAO) and benefits from the

technical support of this organization.

is an institution undertaking research,

studies and providing advice in the field for

companies, public and private sector. It also provides

an environment to promote technical and economic

cooperation between member States in the region

and between these states and the fishery industry

worldwide.

PRESENTATION

The main task of INFOSAMAK is to provide companies, sectorial organizations and governments with information and advice in the fields of production, processing, quality control and marketing of fishery products. It also focuses on meeting the requirements of the decision makers in the fishery and aquaculture sector by providing an effective information system and relevant market analysis. INFOSAMAK prioritises the following actions to fulfil this task, namely to:

• Provide information on marketing opportunities and supply prospects for fishery products within and outside the region.

• Advise on products specifications, processing methods and quality

standards in accordance with market requirements. • Plan and coordinate research activities and the collection and

dissemination of marketing information for fish and fishery products. • Provide training in marketing techniques to staff from private companies,

institutions and fisheries administrations and generally strengthen the national institutions and services responsible for the sector in Member States.

• Help to identify new niche markets for products from under-utilised

fishery resources.

MISSIONS AND FUNCTIONS

• INFOSAMAK Trade News Is a monthly newsletter in English and Arabic covering marketing, prices, market tendencies and general news on the fisheries sector and fish processing industries.

• INFOSAMAK Directory of Fish Importers and Exporters

The directory provides fisheries professionals with a list of importers; exporters; distributors; suppliers of equipment and fishing gears; services and consulting companies related to fisheries and aquaculture sector.

• INFOSAMAK International Magazine It provides readers with current information related to trends in fisheries and aquaculture market. It focuses also on issues related to fish technologies, industries and quality control and its development worldwide. Investment opportunities as well as the situation and perspectives of the sector in Arab countries are also covered.

• Guide to Traceability within the Fishery Industry

This document focuses on the requirements of traceability systems, together with examples from the supply chain of different methods available to ensure product traceability and a structured approach to developing the necessary documentation. The guide is meant to assist companies in understanding and implementing traceability within the fisheries industry. This guide is available both in English and Arabic languages. The Arabic version has been issued by INFOSAMAK. Unit price: 30 Euros

• New Publication: Techno-Economic Feasibility Study of value added seafood products originating from small scale fisheries

Within the framework of the FAO-CFC-INFOSAMAK project, the PEA has released a new publication entitled: "Techno-Economic Feasibility Study of value added seafood products originating from small scale fisheries". The document is produced as outcome of the techno-feasibility study conducted by the Centre. The study assesses the acceptability of value added products originating from the cooperatives of the three beneficiary countries: Djibouti, Morocco and Yemen. Unit price: 30 Euros

• New Publication: Market study of fishery products from Artisanal fisheries in Arab countries

Within the framework of the FAO-CFC-INFOSAMAK project, the PEA has released a new publication entitled: “Market study of fishery products from Artisanal fisheries in Arab countries: Djibouti, Morocco, and Yemen). The document is produced as outcome of the market study conducted by the Centre. The study analyses the status of fisheries resources available to fishermen cooperatives in the three countries and sheds light on potential export markets, namely: European, US, Japanese and Arab markets.

• Exporting Seafood to the EU - Arabic version

This bulletin provides a guideline on how to export seafood products to the EU. It describes, inter alia, the required EU system of official assurances, the main regulations and requirements for the Competent Authorities and operators along the value chain. The Arabic version has been prepared by the Yemeni Seafood Producers and Exporters Association (YSEA) and INFOSAMAK Centre with the support within the framework of the STDF project.

• A Guide to Packaging Technology for seafood Value-Addition

This richly illustrated technical guide present some recent developments in the different techniques, materialsn and machines which can be used for packaging the various types of products. This document aims to provide all necessary information to the different players in the sector faced with making the best possible choices to meet specifications for a targeted market. As such, it is an excellent aid to decision-making. Unit price: 30 Euros

The report was prepared under a MoU signed between INFOSAMAK and the Subregional Office for North Africa of The Organization of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO-SNE).
