VP OF STUDENT SERVICES
Welcome to the 2008 Warrior Softball season! We’re excited about this year and are looking for great things from our soft-ball team. Last season, Coach Staudenmaier enjoyed the leadership of Kristin WIlson and Sarah Rivera, who were named an NWAAAC All-Americans at the close of the season. This year, Coach Staudenmaier has recruited a talented group of student-athletes, from Walla
Walla, Montana, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. Under Coach Staudenmaier’s direction, Warrior Softball has established itself as one of the premier community col-lege programs in the Northwest and has a reputation for developing student-athletes who are successful on the field, active in the community, and who perform at a high standard in the classroom.
We look forward to a busy and exciting Spring season and hope to see you at the ballpark supporting our Warriors!

SEASON PREVIEW
The 2008 Warriors look to continue an established tradition of success. Returning eight starting sophomores from a season ago and having a talented recruiting class of newcomers, the Warriors will have a great chance to compete for an Eastern Region and NWAACC Title in head coach Mike Staudenmaier’s eleventh season.
Staudenmaier begins this season after a very successful season where the Warriors made it, again, to the NWAACC Championships. This team already has great chemistry and a desire to win two championships this spring. The Warri-ors know how to win and have a better understanding of how to win the Eastern Region. They have set their sights on the Eastern Region and NWAACC Crowns.
“The players have what it takes to reach our goal this season - to make the NWAACC Championship and win it,” Staudenmaier said. “We know it’s a battle in the East and NWAACC and our players believe in what we’re trying to do”. “We have a disciplined, competitive group of newcomers and our veterans are extremely motivated and proven winners. “This is a good club and it’s going to be a fun season”.
Pitching – One sophomore returns, BreAnn Jones, who had a tremendous work load in the circle last spring by doing the majority of the pitching, winning a school record 24 games in 2007. Jones a 1st Team All NWAACC East se-lection and also League MVP Pitcher, also plays 1B. Jones is a competitor and we look for her to have a great year this year with the added depth to our staff. Makenzie Marchbanks was the Warriors top recruit this past year. Marchbanks will pitch and also play 1B. These two will be both In the top five for best pitchers In the NWAACC. We are looking for good things from them. If they do their jobs, we will win a lot of games.
Catcher – The Warriors have two freshmen catchers this season and both will see time behind the plate, Michelle Newbill and Heather Sharts. These are two good catchers. Both kids compete well and both are excited to be catch-ing two of the best pitchers in the NWAACC.
Infield – Walla Walla’s defense -- led by sophomores Katie Brown (SS), Becky Jones (3B/1B) Amanda Potter (2B) and Kaila Rodighiero (3B/2B) -- Becky Jones, a team captain, was a 2006 1st Team All NWAACC East selection at 3B. Jones hit .407 with 10 HR’s and 8 2B while driving in 50 RBI’s. Katie Brown led the 2007 team playing SS. Katie was a 1st Team All NWAACC East selection hitting .413 with 10 HR’s and 16 2B while driving in 39 RBI’s. Amanda Pot-ter was a 2nd Team All NWAACC East selection. Potter hit .357 with 7 HR’s and 7 2B while driving In 23 RBI’s. Kaila Rodighi-ero played 2B and 3B last season as a role player. This season we look for Rodighiero to have a big year. She has really developed as a player and has some of the best hands defensively on the infield that have gone through this program. Rounding out the infield is Cristal Henzel. Cristal is a local player and will be competing for a spot at 3B. BreAnn Jones and Makenzie Marchbanks will split time at 1B and Pitching.
Outfield – The Warriors return three in the outfield. Centerfielder Sharee Fitzgerald is back. Fitzgerald is a 1st Team All NWAACC East selection. Fitzgerald hit .415 with 27 RBI’s. Also, Caitlyn Bersing RF is a good defensive outfielder who reads the ball well. Bersing tore ligaments in her thumb and had to sit out the season. Lisa Hender LF is returning after having a break out year. Hender hit .415 and has very good speed. These are three great athletes that can fly in the outfield and run down tons of balls. Tressa Robins, Emily Anderson, Megan Kessler Arielle Gonzalez, Ashley Sterk and Liz Homer are recruits that have made tremendous strides to be able to battle for a starting spot this spring.
Schedule – The NWAACC Eastern Region will again be a grueling year. All of the teams are capable in making it to the NWAACC Championships. But before Walla Walla embarks on the conference schedule, it will spend most of its preseason schedule against great competition, including dates with North Idaho, a team that made it to the Junior College World series last season and placed 2nd and Eastern Oregon, a four year school the competes in the NAIA.

MIkE STAudENMAIER
HEAd COACH
Coach Staudenmaier begins his eleventh season at the helm of the Lady Warriors with a career record of 276W-183L. After five suc-cessful seasons as a head assistant coach in the Warriors Baseball program, Coach Stauden-maier continues WWCC’s winning ways on the softball diamond.
In his five years as head assistant coach, Staudenmaier served as the pitching coach for four Eastern Region championship teams. The 1994 Warriors were NWAACC runner up.
Prior to returning to Walla Walla, Mike was part of four straight NAIA District One winners as a coach and player at Whitworth. He reg-istered saves in each Pirate victories during a best-of-three District One playoff series in 1989 and 1990.
In the mid and late 80’s, Mike starred at Walla Walla High School in football and baseball. He was also selected to the NWAACC Eastern Region first team as a pitcher for Walla Walla Community College, where he earned an A.A. degree in 1988.
Staudenmaier’s coaching experience includes two years as WWCC’s assistant women’s basketball coach. Both the 1994-95 and 1995-96 Lady Warriors qualified for the NWAACC Eastern Region playoffs. Away from the field, Mike’s lengthy resume includes his current tenure as head trainer for Warrior athletics, supervisor of WWCC’s ath-letic facilities, head equipment manager, and instructor of sports medicine classes. Despite the hec-tic schedule, Mike is setting time aside to pursue a master’s degree in athletic administration.
A positive role model, teacher, and coach, Staudenmaier expects his team to contend for the NWAACC East-ern Division and NWAACC titles. In his first two years with the softball program he tallied two 20 plus win sea-sons and a 39-8 mark in his third. In 2001, the team went 25-21 and placed fourth at the NWAACC Champion-ship Tournament. The 2002 team went 36-11 overall, and won the Eastern Region Softball title, with a 25-5 league record, for the first time in school history. In 2006, the Warriors made it back to the NWAACC Tourna-ment with a 3rd place finish in the tough NWAACC Eastern Region. Last year, the War-riors went 39-18 with a 5th place finish at the tournament. In his ten years at the helm, he has had ten NFCA/NWAACC All-Americans, one North Eastern Region MVP, two Eastern Region MVP’s, and two Eastern Region Pitching MVP. He has also had thirty 1st Team All NWAACC players, eighteen 2nd Team All NWAACC players, and 38 sophomore All-Stars. Five of his players have made the All NWAACC Tournament team, and fourteen players have been awarded the NFCA All American Academic award. One catcher has been voted Diamond National Catcher of the Year. Mike was awarded the prestigious Speedline National Coach of the Year award in 2000. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association presented the award in San Antonio, Texas at their National Convention. Coach Stauden-maier has totaled an amazing 276 victories in ten seasons at the helm of the Warriors. With all of these accom-plishments, he is most proud of how his players have maintained a team GPA over a 3.0 each quarter for the nine years he has coached.
