  • HAZARD: INJECTION INJURYA high pressure paint stream produced by thisequipment can pierce the skin and underlyingtissues, leading to serious injury and possibleamputation. SEE A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY.DO NOT TREAT AN INJECTION INJURY AS A SIMPLE CUT!Injection can lead to amputation. See a physician immediately. The maximum operating range of the gun is 2800PSI/193BAR fluid pressure.

PREVENTION:• NEVER aim the gun at any part of the body. • NEVER allow any part of the body to touch the fluid stream.

DO NOT allow body to touch a leak in the fluid hose.• NEVER put your hand in front of the gun. Gloves will not

provide protection against an injection injury.• ALWAYS lock the gun trigger, shut the pump off, and release

all pressure before servicing, cleaning the tip or guard, changing tip, or leaving unattended. Pressure will not bereleased by turning off the motor. The PRIME/SPRAY knobmust be turned to PRIME to relieve the pressure. Refer tothe PRESSURE RELIEF PROCEDURE (page 5) describedin the pump manual.

    • ALWAYS keep the tip guard in place while spraying. The tipguard provides some protection but is mainly a warningdevice.

    • ALWAYS remove the spray tip before flushing or cleaningthe system.

    • Paint hose can develop leaks from wear, kinking and abuse.A leak can inject material into the skin. Inspect the hosebefore each use.

    • NEVER use a spray gun without a working trigger lock andtrigger guard in place.

    • All accessories must be rated at or above 2800 PSI/193 BAR.This includes spray tips, guns, extensions, and hose.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN:Injection into the skin is a traumatic injury. It isimportant to treat the injury as soon as possible. DONOT delay treatment to research toxicity. Toxicity is aconcern with some coatings injected directly into theblood stream. Consultation with a plastic surgeon orreconstructive hand surgeon may be advisable.

    PRACTICE

Be sure that the paint hose is free of kinks and clear ofobjects with sharp cutting edges.

    1. Switch the pump ONand turn thePRIME/SPRAY knob toSPRAY.

    2. When the motor shutsoff, unlock the spray gunand spray a test area tocheck the spray pattern.

SPRAYING TECHNIQUEThe key to a good paint job is an even coating over the entiresurface. This is done by using even strokes. Follow the TIPS, below.

Keep stroke smooth and at an even speed.

    Even coat throughout

    Approximately10 to 12 inches

TIP: Keep your arm moving at a constant speed andkeep the spray gun at a constant distance from thesurface. The best spraying distance is 10 to 12inches between the spray tip and the surface.

If your pattern is tailing, your spray tip might have anobstruction, your spray gun filter might be clogged oryour spray tip might be worn. Refer to SprayingTroubleshooting on the next page.

    Good spray pattern

    Bad spray pattern (tailing)

When enough pressure has built up in the hose, themotor will shut off automatically. The motor will cycle onand off automatically as it needs pressure.

    SPRAY

    PRIME

    l

    CAUTION

ADDITIONAL TIPSOverlap each stroke by about 30%. This will ensure an evencoating. When you stop painting, follow PRESSURE RELIEFPROCEDURE and unplug electrical cord.Keep the hopper lid placed on the hopper during spraying. This will prevent debris from falling into your spray material.IF YOU EXPECT TO BE AWAY FROM YOUR SPRAYER FORMORE THAN ONE HOUR, FOLLOW THE SHORT-TERMSTORAGE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN THE STORAGESECTION OF THIS MANUAL (page 11).

Proper way to trigger the spray gun

    Approximately10 to 12 inches

    Keep strokeeven

Start stroke End strokePull trigger Release triggerKeep steady

TIP: The spray gun should be triggered by turning it onand off with each stroke. Do not trigger the gunduring the middle of a stroke. This will result in anuneven spray and splotchy coverage.

    Heavy Coat

Do not flex wrist while spraying.

    Light Coat Light Coat

TIP: Keep the spray gun at right angles to the surface. This means moving your entire arm back and forthrather than just flexing your wrist.

    Approximately10 to 12 inches

    Right wayRight wayWrong way

TIP: Keep the spray gun perpendicular to the surface, otherwise one end of the pattern will be thickerthan the other.

    SPRAYING

  • UNCLOGGING THE SPRAY TIP

Do not attempt to unclog or clean the tip with your finger.

Do not use a needle or other sharp pointed instrument toclean the tip. The hard tungsten carbide can chip.If the spray pattern becomes distorted or stops completely whilethe gun is triggered, follow these steps:

    1. Turn the pump off, and release the trigger and lock the gunoff.

    2. Rotate the reversible tip arrow 180° so that the point of thearrow is toward the rear of the gun (CLEAN position).

    3. Turn the PRIME/SPRAY knobto SPRAY.

    4. Unlock the gun and squeezethe trigger, pointing the gun ata scrap piece of wood orcardboard. This allowspressure in the spray hose toblow out the obstruction. Whenthe nozzle is clean, paint will come out in a high pressurestream.

    5. Release the trigger and lock the gun off.

    6. Reverse the tip so the arrowpoints foward again (SPRAYposition).

    7. Unlock the gun and resumespraying.

If paint still will not spray from the spray tip, follow thesteps on the next column.

Under pressure, the spray tipmay be very difficult to turn.Turn the PRIME/SPRAY knobto PRIME and trigger the gun. This will relieve pressure andthe tip will turn more easily.

    O

    CAUTION

    WARNING

The following is a short list of minor difficulties you mightencounter while spraying. If any of these occur, it will reducethe flow of material, making your spray pattern poor, ormaterial will fail to spray from the gun.

    • Clogged spray tip• Clogged gun filter• Clogged inlet filter

Follow the guidelines on this page to correct any one of theseproblems.
