See“Involvement Helps for Younger Children” for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.)
“One Word Chorus” – After you have read this verse from the Bible, explained what it means, and repeatedit at least two times, you may begin this drill. Assign each child one word of the verse. “Tabernacle Concentration” – On the flannelboard, place a Tabernacle symbol behind each of the sixteensquares. The child who correctly answers the question earns 100 points for his team. He is also given achance to match two of the symbols that are hidden behind the numbered squares. As he removes each ofthe squares, review the meaning of each symbol. If the two symbols do not match, cover them again withthe squares. When the symbols do match, leave them uncovered. The child who matches the squares earnsa bonus of 25 points for his team. – Adapted, Give & Take, February 1993

PRE-SESSION, Younger Child – TABERNACLE #4
“. . . For ye are the temple of the living God . . . .”2 Corinthians 6:16
MEMORY VERSE HELPS
THE TABERNACLE – LESSON #4“The Holy Place”
2 Corinthians 6:16 – “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the templeof the living God . . . .”(The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize.)
T USE the visual and let the children read the verse withyou.
T READ the verse from your Bible while holding thevisual so the children can follow along.
T DO MOTIONS together with the children while you EXPLAIN the verse as follows:
2 Corinthians 6:16 (Hold hands as an open Bible.)
“And what agreement hath the templeof God with idols?”
(Shrug shoulders with palms up.Move right hand, then left hand toside as if comparing two things.)
“For ye are the temple of the living God. . . .”
(Point to yourself, then up.)
2 Corinthians 6:16 (Hold hands as an open Bible.)
– This is the address (where the verse is located inthe Bible). This verse is found in the book ofSecond Corinthians, chapter 6, verse 16.
– When you agree to something, you are saying“yes, that is right.” When the Israelites finallymade it to the Promised Land, God did not live inthe Tabernacle anymore. Instead, He lived in aplace called the Temple. God is asking, “Is it rightto bring idols, or false gods, into My House?” No!
– But God says that if you have believed in Jesus asyour Saviour, then Jesus lives in you by His HolySpirit. That means we are God’s temple. He doesnot want you to have any “idols” in your life. Anidol is not just a little statue that some peoplethink will help them, it is anything that is moreimportant to us than God is. We should not haveanything in our lives that is more important to usthan God is.
– The book of 2 Corinthians, chapter 6, verse 16.
T DRILL the verse with the activity listed on the Tabernacle #4 Agenda.
T TEST the children for their understanding of the verse.
Where is God’s temple today? What does God not want us to have in our lives?

THE TABERNACLE #4 – “The Holy Place”
MEMORY VERSE: Shortened verse
2 Corinthians 6:16 – “. . . For ye are the temple of the living God . . . .”
Say the reference while holding hands as an open Bible. Then clap slowly and evenly, clapping on each capitalized word.
“ . . . For YE are the TEMPLE of the LIVING GOD . . . .”
BIBLE LESSON HELPS:
Main Truth – Each time Main Thrust is repeated, have children do the following motions. On“God,” point to Heaven. On “you,” point to self. On “read His Word,” hands asan open Bible. On “daily,” point to fingers one at a time.
Illustration 5 – Ask, “How would you have felt if your mother helped to make that veil?”
Illustration 6 – Have children pretend to be placing loaves of bread on table. Count them as youdo so.
– Give children a small piece of bread to eat.
Illustration 7 – Have children pretend to be pouring oil into each cup. As they pour, count to 7for number of cups.
Illustration 8 – Smell the sweet, pleasing fragrance of incense. Put a smile on face.– With their finger, have children draw the altar of incense. Let moving fingers
indicate sweet smell rising.– Say together, “Jesus is the King of kings.” With fingers extended upward, move
both hands around top of head to indicate a crown.– Say, “Show me with your hands what Jesus does for His children.”
BIBLE LEARNING GAME: “Read His Word”
Have children stand in a circle. Choose a child to stand in center, holding a Bible. Children walkaround circle singing (to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”):
“God wants you to read His Word, read His Word, read His Word. God wants you to read His Word, read His Word each day.”
After the song, ask a volunteer to “Name something that you think people could learn from theBible.” (Expect answers like “about Moses,” “about God loving them,” “that they should givethanks,” etc.) Give reinforcing comment.
Choose someone else to hold Bible. Play again.

GO AND TELL BOX Week #18 – What Do the Luttmanns Do?
(Suggested item to put in the “Go and Tell” Box – picture of Mueller lesson.)
What do you think the story of George Mueller has to do with goingand telling? (Let the children share their ideas.)
This visual reminds me of how important it is that our missionaryteachers have visuals to use when teaching children.
WHAT DO THE LUTTMANNS DO? (Show their picture andWHAT wordstrip.)
As we learned earlier this year in our Good News Club/Released Time Class, missionarieshave many other responsibilities besides telling people about the Lord Jesus.
PREPARE VISUALS – (Use PREPARE VISUALS wordstrip.) Mr. Tom spends a good partof his time working with his team to print new materials and to change older ones into brightfull-color visuals. This makes the material more exciting to the children as they listen to thelessons. The lesson on George Mueller, which is a true story about a missionary, is excitingto learn because it’s about God’s call to be a missionary.
TEACH CHILDREN – (Use TEACH CHILDREN wordstrip.) Mr. Tom enjoys teachingchildren, and he helps at a Good News Club in Lancaster. He also teaches children in hischurch on Wednesday nights. Do you remember that Mr. Tom and Mrs. Betsy have fourboys? When Mr. Tom is home in the evenings, he likes to have a daily quiet time, when heand the three older boys read the Bible together and talk to God.
TRAIN TEACHERS – (Use TRAIN TEACHERS wordstrip.) When Mr. Tom is visitingchurches he has opportunities to help teachers understand how to better teach children aboutmissionaries. He also provides helps to teachers that challenge the children to pray aboutbecoming a missionary.
LET’S PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONARIES.
THANK the Lord for Mr. Tom and his love for the children around the world and in his ownchurch.
PRAY for Mr. Tom and the teachers he teaches, to help children understand God’s call tobe a missionary.
