Independence day! It's the holiday we are longing for. From the downtown to Brewster Academy, There is an endless parade decorated with American flags and a lot of people on the street of Wolfeboro. Thai Scholars have our spot on the opposite side of the town hall, watching, taking pictures, buying foods, and enjoying their first holiday ever in the United States.

Intense soccer practice

“Road to VMI (Virginia Military Institute)”

Since Monday, 1st of July, we practiced soccer at least an hour a day to prepare for the upcoming match. Every year, Thai Scholar were defeated by Abu Dhabi students, but not this year (we hope so). We are grouped into Offense team and Defense team, and trained by the TAs accordingly. Though some of us are very new to soccer, we will try our best!

Q&A with our TA

1. What bring you to be our lovely TA?

Jackie: I wanted to be a Thai Scholar TA because I have discovered that I love working with students. I love helping students adjust to their new environments, whether that is college or prep school. I like to advise students in need and serve as a resource to help them succeed inside and outside of the classroom. I am so happy I am able to spend the summer with you all!

2 What is your first impression of the TS62?

Jackie: My first impression of the TS62 group is that these are some of the most respectful, hardworking students I have ever met. When I was your age, I don’t think I was as mature and responsible as you all are. I have so much trust in you all. Even when I am on duty or recreation, I know that you will be easy to work with and will always give me your best efforts.

3. Tell us some funny situation/story at Brewster with TAs or TS.

Jackie: My favorite/funniest memory at Brewster with you guys so far is when you all first introduced yourselves to the staff in the Cooper Center. You all were so funny! It was so courageous for you guys to stand up in front of an audience of strangers and tell us a little bit about yourselves.

4. Tell us more about yourself (Ex. Favorite food, activities, place in Wolfeboro, etc.)

Jackie: My favorite food is Mexican food. I love anything spicy, especially burritos and guacamole! My favorite thing to do is play sports. In the winter, I play and coach a lot of hockey. So, in the summer, I try to put the skates away and do other things...It’s really hard. Although, this summer I have been enjoying playing softball and field hockey. My favorite place in Wolfeboro is basically anywhere downtown on the water. Everyday feels like a vacation while I am here. Thank you for having me!

Q&A with our TA1. What bring you to be our lovely TA?

P’Jinny: I was a newcomer—student who arrived later in the second half of Brewster Summer Program—back in my TS59 year, thus I did not know how the first half of the program was like and my friends kept telling me that the first half was much more fun (sorry for telling you this, guys). I thought since then that I must come back to Brewster as a TA to experience the first section of the program by myself. When I went to the Ethel Walker school, I really made a good number of friends there. In addition, most of my close friends are students in the class of 2020 which will be the same class as TS62 and that was when I decided that I would like to become a TA for TS62. Although I might not have many experiences at Brewster, I had been through the life of prep school. Accordingly, I would like to share my experiences and give some advice about prep school and American cultures with you guys.

2 What is your first impression of the TS62?

P’Jinny: You guys are the sweetest group of TS I have ever met. Since the very first days of the program, you were enthusiastic and were curious to know about the new cultures regardless of your jetlags. I am very proud of you guys, and glad that we get to know each other.

3. Tell us some funny situation/story at Brewster with TAs or TS.

P’Jinny: To be honest, I was always off-status when I was a TS here at Brewster because I came to the program late and got lost in every subject along with my jetlag. I was usually missed the dorm check-in time and was late to class because I slept in. It was not a very good memory of me at Brewster, but it was very funny when thinking about it. However, I originally was not a bad student, I did great jobs in prep school. Thus, the bad habits could always be changed. Keep trying until we have zero students off-status this year.

4. Tell us more about yourself (Ex. Favorite food, activities, place in Wolfeboro, etc.)

P’Jinny: My favorite place in town is definitely Bailey’s Bubbles!!! I still have this funny picture of me three years ago taken in front of the ice cream shop compared to the photo of me with the ice cream taken last week. By the way, mint chocolate chip is my all-time favorite flavor!
