The Ability Center's vision is for Toledo to become the most disability friendly community in the country. The original mission and intent of Toledo Rotarians, continues today and on December 10th, 2020, the organization turned 100! Tim obtained a BA in Business Administration from the University of Toledo. Tim has held administrative positions in both corporate and non-profit organizations prior to becoming Executive Director of the Abilty Center in 1999. Tim has been married to his wife, Chris, for 34 years and has two sons. He lives in Sylvania and spends his summers at his home on Bird Lake near Hillsdale, Michigan. Rotarian Tim Harrington, is the Executive Director of The Ability Center and will share the story of the evolution of the Center, made possible by Toledo Rotary 100 years ago! The organization was started as a Crippled Children's Home. As community needs changed, so have the services the Center offers. Today's programs promote independance and community living.   • PP Tom Backoff will serve as Chairman of the Rotary Club of Toledo's "Project V Ad HocCommittee" along with President Alex, PP Tim Ryan and PP Joe Tafelski. The ad hoccommittee is one of 14 subcommittees that make up the new City of Toledo Project V,launched in December 2020, consisting of a diverse leadership team from those in theprivate and public sector who will execute this effort and goal to have over 70% of ourcitizens vaccinated. Project V is a community-wide initiative with a mission, through trustedleaders, to educate citizens on the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine andprovide logistical support for the effective delivery of the vaccine in the community. Thecoalition will work with the Toledo Lucas County Health Department and the NeighborhoodHealth Association to succeed in the goal to have over 70% of our citizens vaccinated andto be the highest vaccinated percentage community in the Midwest. We look forward toon-going updates on the success of Project V.

  • Lou Hebert is a Toledo area native who spent over 50 years working inbroadcast newsrooms in Toledo (WCWA, WTOL, WDHO WSPD) and othersaround the nation including Detroit, Denver, Phoenix and Chicago. He hasreported and produced radio and television news and is an award winningdocumentary and feature reporter. He earned the coveted Peabody Award andnumerous Emmy's for TV production. In recent years, Lou has become a self-professed history nerd, writing and publishing several books on Toledo regionalhistory, including Day by Day in Toledo and Toledo's Hidden History.Lou is also a frequent public speaker on the topics of yesteryear. Lou is pastpresident of the Toledo Police Museum, and a current board member of theToledo History Museum. He also produces a local history blog calledToledoGazette.com and is currently writing a book on Colorado history, inaddition to developing a podcast on strange and forgotten news.

    Lou lives in Perrysburg with his wife Kay-Lynne and has five adult sons whoare making their own way in the world. Lou is an avid writer and reader ofmost anything, especially old brittle newspapers. He enjoys a good actionflick, loves to golf and travel.

    On Monday we hosted award winning writer andreporter, Lou Hebert. Lou took us back in time 100years ago to 1920 Toledo. We were transported toa time when prohibition was alive and a house indowntown Toledo was around $3000. Lou's loveand knowledge of our rich history is obvious andtold in a way where you could listen for hours!Thank you Lou for taking the time to so eloquentlyshare your knowledge and passion!
