annual trip to the Fire Department!

Return of Chromebooks We will be collecting Chromebooks from students just as we do textbooks. Students must

have their chargers and Chromebooks ready to turn in. They keep the bag so that when

Chromebooks are redistributed next school year, they will have the appropriate cases in which

to carry them. If any students have issues or concerns about their Chromebooks, they need to

see Mrs. Rowland as soon as possible (i.e. cracked screen, missing chargers, etc.). This will

make the process much smoother and faster on the day of check-in.

Contact Mary Nell Anthony at 260-5110 or [email protected] with any

questions regarding summer school.

FAQs about Summer School 1. Why should I take summer school? Taking credit recovery or attendance recovery

allows students the BEST chance of graduating on time. Once a student is no longer

on grade level, they have an 80 percent chance of dropping out. It is always better

to not have to double up on classes throughout the year.

2. Why is summer school so expensive? To pay our summer school staff which consists

of multiple teachers, a security officer, computer facilitator, etc., it costs almost

$16,000.00. The state and local budget does not fund summer school. We are not

“making money”; we are simply paying our staff. It is far more expensive to get

behind in your coursework and not gain a diploma.

3. What is the difference between credit recovery and attendance recovery? Credit

recovery is when you retake a class that you have failed. You must have at least a 65

in the class to be allowed that opportunity. We have found that if students score

lower than a 65, it is difficult for them to complete the credit recovery course in the

allotted amount of time. These courses cost $160.00. Attendance recovery is when

you are making up hours because you missed too many days of the class due to

absences. Students pay $5.00 per hour for every hour they must recoup in order to

be given credit. They are given the original grade they earned in the course after

making up the time.

4. If I took Saturday School for a class, can I do credit recovery? No. Students may not

do credit recovery and attendance recovery for the same course. Even if you made

up hours in Saturday School, that still counts as attendance recovery.

5. Who do I contact with questions about summer school or whether or not I will be

on grade level if I do not take summer school? Mrs. Anthony. In the summer, you

can reach her via e-mail at [email protected] or by calling 260-5110.

6. When is registration? June 9 from 1:30-3:30 or June 10 from 8:15-12:00 in the lecture

hall at T.L. Hanna. Please plan to pay with cash or debit. Checks are not accepted.

Latest Sports Update -- Playoffs o Baseball plays tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, at Northwestern High School at 1 pm in

11 at Smithfield Country Club in Easley. The top 8 teams from that tournament

compete in the State Championship Tournament at Furman University on May 18-19.

Columbia tomorrow, Saturday, May 9. The State Championship meet is next

Hanna Golfers Finish Second in

Region

Thirty-six holes and eight hours after the start of the Region 1 4-A golf tournament at the

Woodmont home course Bonnie Brae, the Yellow Jacket Boys’ Golf Team ended up where

they started. When the sun went down, the second seeded Jackets finished second to Easley,

but not before some morning fireworks. After 18 holes the Jackets, who shot their season best

18 hole round of 294, had a 10-stroke lead over the tournament favorite Green Wave. Riding

the backs of a 2 under par (70) round by junior Brady Cox, a 1 over par (73) from junior Jake

Miller, a 2 over (74) from senior Graham Farmer and a solid 5 over (77) from senior Jon-

Michael Kubu, the Jackets prepared for the comeback the defending region champs were sure

to attempt. Firmer, less forgiving greens and a bit more wind made for a different course in

the afternoon and the Green Wave's three all-region golfers made better adjustments than the

Jackets and made up the difference early. The second place finish qualifies the guys for this

coming Monday's Upperstate Tournament to be played, ironically, at Easley's home course,

SmithField Country Club. In addition to the fine play in round one, the Jackets can be proud

of junior Jake MIller's selection to the All-Region Golf Team, along with three Easley golfers.

His consistent play (73, 77) is a hallmark of his game this year. Congrats Jake!

Important FAFSA Information for

Parents What Is FAFSA? All students are expected to contribute towards the cost of their college

education. How much you and your family will be expected to contribute depends on your

financial situation—and is what is referred to as your Expected Family Contribution or EFC.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used by the U.S. Department

of Education to determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) by conducting a “need

analysis” based on financial information, such as income, assets and other household

information, which you (and your parents if you are a dependent student) will be asked to

provide. The form is submitted to, and processed by, a federal processor contracted by the

U.S. Department of Education (ED), and the results are electronically transmitted to the

financial aid offices of the schools that you list on your application. FAFSA is the application

used by nearly all colleges and universities to determine eligibility for federal, state, and

college-sponsored financial aid, including grants, educational loans, and work-study programs.

On May 10th, the FAFSA PIN (that we have all come to love) will be a thing of the past. The

Department of Education is replacing the PIN with the Federal Student Aid (FSA) User

ID. Below is the communication regarding the change from the Department of Education.

As we first announced to the community last fall, we will soon implement a modernized login

process to improve security and the customer experience for our student- and borrower-based

websites, including FAFSA on the Web, NSLDS Student Access, StudentLoans.gov,

StudentAid.gov, and the TEACH Grant website. The new FSA ID, which will be comprised of a

user-selected username and password, will replace the Federal Student Aid PIN as the process

by which students, parents, and borrowers authenticate their identity to access their federal

student aid information.

Implementation of the FSA ID will be on Sunday, May 10, 2015. This replaces the originally-

announced date of April 26, 2015. The additional time will allow us to confirm the readiness

of our systems to make the transition from the Federal Student Aid PIN to the FSA ID.

We continue to work to ensure that the transition to the FSA ID is as seamless as possible for

our customers. In the coming weeks, users of the impacted websites will begin to see

announcements regarding the upcoming change. The high-level information will introduce the

FSA ID and reassure users that there is nothing they need to do before the change.

After implementation on May 10, 2015, users who arrive at the impacted websites will be

directed to a link to register for their new FSA ID. The registration process should take less

than seven minutes.

As requested by the community at the FSA Conference last December, we will post a step-by-

step guide to registering for an FSA ID to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP)

Web site. If you share this guide or any other FSA ID information with your students, parents,

and borrowers, please emphasize that there is nothing a user can or should do prior to

implementation. A user should simply be prepared to complete the transition when they visit

one of the impacted websites on or after May 10, 2015. Only the owner of the FSA ID should

create his or her account.

As a reminder, this change will not impact the FSA User ID login process that is currently in

place for financial aid professionals.

Thank you in advance for your support as we implement this important change.

Best Regards,

April G Baur, M.Ed.

2015 SENIOR GRADUATION

INFORMATION

We are looking forward to a wonderful graduation ceremony at Bon Secours Wellness Arena

(BSWA) in Greenville on May 23, 2015, and we know that Seniors and their parents are

excited about the big day. There are a number of points that are key to making graduation

the DIGNIFIED and happy event that all students deserve. Our goal is to make this a time of

respectful celebration so that everyone may have his or her individual moment to be

recognized.

Seniors must attend all three graduation practices and Awards Night – the roll will be checked.

NO EXCEPTIONS! Any Senior who is not in attendance at each practice for the entire time

will NOT be allowed to take part in graduation. Mrs. Hilton is the only one who can excuse

any absences from practices. Appropriate school dress is expected, and you must wear your

school ID. No visitors are permitted at practice, including children. We will give out many

important items during practices. You must have your school ID to receive these.

Practices at Hanna will begin at 8:15 a.m. and last as long as necessary. If we get cooperation

from the senior class, we can be finished by about 11:00 am. Being tardy to practice will just

prolong the length of practice for everyone. Please note that having to go to work is not an

acceptable excuse to leave practice early.

We will practice at BSWA on Friday, May 22. All seniors will ride Anderson School District

Five School buses to Greenville for this practice. We will meet in the mall area at 7:45 a.m.

and attendance will be taken on the bus at 8:00 a.m. If a student misses the bus, this will

result in an unexcused absence, which may result in the loss of the privilege of marching at

graduation.

Some Seniors will have to clear obligations with various teachers and/or the school financial

office before they can get diplomas. Names of those who have outstanding fees will be called

out each day of practice. Any Senior who does not clear all obligations by Tuesday, May 19 at

8:15 am, will have his/her diploma removed from the diploma cover and held in the office

until all monies are paid. There will be long lines at that time, so Seniors should clear fees

EARLY! Also, don’t forget that we have practice on May 20 and May 21 at TLH, and on May

22 at BSWA. GRADUATION is on the May 23.

GRADUATION – May 23

Graduation ceremonies begin at 3:30 p.m. - whether or not any Senior and his/her guests are

there! For graduation, all Seniors need to report to the VIP area of the BSWA NO LATER

THAN 2:00! Traffic will be very congested, so plan to ARRIVE EARLY. Parking is available in

the parking garage beside the BSWA and costs $5. Be sure to bring your cap, gown, and

tassel. You should be dressed appropriately for graduation. If you choose to dress

inappropriately, you will not be allowed to march, and you will have to pick up your

diploma at the school on Tuesday, May 26. Appropriate dress is:

Men – dark trousers (navy or black) ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS; dark dress shoes (absolutely no

tennis shoes or flip-flops), dark socks, white shirts, dark necktie or bowtie, cap, gown, tassel.

Women – black dresses or black dress pants and black blouse, black low-heeled shoes, cap,

gown, and tassel. Absolutely no tennis shoes or flip-flops of any kind!

At the BSWA, Seniors will enter through the VIP Doors and check in at the designated table.

They will line up in appropriate lines. Teachers will take attendance and check dress code at

2:45 pm. Junior Marshals will lead Seniors into the ceremony at the appropriate time. At the

end of the ceremony, Junior Marshals will lead Seniors out.

***Please let your family and friends know that it is our desire that the graduation ceremony

be one that is dignified and appropriate as we honor our seniors. We respectfully request that

those who are invited to this ceremony refrain from outbursts, use of noisemakers, and any

other activities that may disrupt the ceremony. Law enforcement will remove any guests who

violate this policy

Crafts Photography will be taking photographs of those who purchase the service ahead of

time. Flyers will be given out at graduation practice.

Creative Video will also be taping the entire graduation ceremony. They will sell these videos

for $25 on the day of graduation and $30 afterwards. Order forms will be available during

this Senior Meeting and at Bon Secours the day of graduation.
