W e enjoyed a wonderfulevening of tennis with our
good friends from the Santa MonicaTennis Club (SMTC) on January 19.We played a round robin pro-set (firstto 8 games, win by 2) with no-adscoring in the first round. SMTC tookcare of business, but many matcheswere competitive. They won all butone match and one was a tie, sothey won the meet. However, theMCC players fought valiantly, withmany sets requiring a full hour tocomplete! In the second round robin,Stephanie and I mixed the teamsaround putting a MCC player with aSMTC player in each match versusanother MCC-er and a SMTC player. This forced players who did not knoweach other to form a partnership andbecome well-acquainted. Everyoneenjoyed the format and this keptthings on a social tip.
After the lively doubles, 15 of theplayers made their way up to theMCC Restaurant where we got toknow each other better overcocktails and dinner. We occupied atable in the back while the excellentband played rock 'n roll classics.During and after dinner, severalplayers found the dance floor andcut a rug. A good time was had byall both on court and off! Look out forour next evening interclub in Gene'semail updates.

T his column was an easy one to write because Iwent to the Super Bowl Party at the MCC
Restaurant that was transformed into the MCC SportsBar. We probably saw each other there as therewere over 150 people who came to watch thegame on one of the four 70-inch flat panels, as wellas the flat panels over the bar and on the wall. Therewasn’t a bad view in the house. Not only could youclearly see the game, you could clearly hear all theaction from the new Game Immersion Sound System.I loved not cooking, running to the kitchen, and, especially not having to clean up after the gameparty at my place. Let them do it, was my motto thisyear, as it will be for all future years. Not only couldwe all see and hear the game and chat with ourfriends, we could walk around and give theopposition a bad time when they were behind ourteam. It was such a thrilling game that I almost onlymade one trip to the buffet, but I managed to meetmy friends a number of times getting Buffalo Wings,Chili and Nachos with all the fixings, and thoseSliders. I saw a few people actually getting Veggisliders made for them by our gracious wait andkitchen staff. Oh yes, I did have a New Castle beer,or two, but who was counting? I picked out from the

new selection of craft beers that the bar has startedstocking, and continues to stock after the game. What a day! What a game! What a greattransformation into a Sports Bar. I know they are goingto transform it again into a romantic dinner venue, with exotic foods and soft guitar music for Valentine’sDay. I hope they transform it into a dinner theatrewhen I go there to watch the Oscars. I’ll let you knowabout all the transformation next month. Stay tuned. The renewal of our Restaurant into our favorite placeto walk to for food and entertainment is justbeginning.
