From Sara

As we close another school year and end my time

serving you as co-president, I find myself looking

back at all of the changes that have occurred in all

our lives. I became a parent to two little boys,

many of you have become grandparents (for the

first time – or not), new members have joined,

others have left…oh what a year it has been. I

want to thank you all for letting me be a leader

among you. I look forward to continue to watch

Eta Xi grow in the next biennium.

From Eunice

It was car wash day, I got in my freshly cleaned

car, and I headed to do my errands around town.

When I arrived at home, I noticed my car was

covered in a fine yellow dust. Then I remembered

the lovely oak pollen that has been in our air

during this beautiful hill country spring time. I

told myself not to, “Sweat the small stuff and to

remember it’s all small stuff”. I resisted the urge

to go back and wash the car again. Why am I

telling you about my musings on this spring day?

It is because as we plan for our next year of

service and commitment to DKG we all may feel

overwhelmed by “stuff”. As Richard Carlson told

us in his book, the solution is to catch ourselves

when we insist that things should be other than

they are.(That dusty car problem) If we can stop

ourselves from building a mental “snowball”

about all we have to do, then we can avoid that

stressed, overwhelmed feeling, and we can then

focus on the magic and beauty of being key

women educators. For this day, I have made peace

with this dusty imperfection.
