Pope Francis on Work Ethics On Wed. Aug 12th, 2015 Pope Francis addressed

pilgrims on the need to rest from work and celebrate life. This, he insisted did not amount to promoting laziness, but a healthy life style. He reminded that in the creation account God rested from work on the seventh day. With regard to celebration, he said it was important to dedicate time to contemplation and to pause and enjoy fruits of our labour. He condemned the mentality of being slaves to work, insisting that we should be masters instead. He cautioned against dam-aging work rhythms.

This over-emphasis on gain and technical efficiency “attacks human rhythms of life and denies man the time for what's really important,” he said, explaining that God wants to set us free from these vices.

“Life has human rhythms,” the Pope added. “Let us banish this idea of a celebration centered on con-sumption and on debauchery and let us regain its sacred value, seeing it as a privileged time in which we can encounter God and others.” Francis pointed to Sundays as a particularly important time for rest, because “in them we find God.” Going to Mass brings the grace of Jesus Christ to each of our celebrations, he said, since it is in the Eucharist that we encounter his presence, love and sacrifice. The Eucharistic celebration, he said, is Je-sus’ way of being with us and forming us into a com-munity. CNA

Fr. LAZAROUS MWANSA MAKES FIRST BAP-TISM AS PARISH PRIEST AT ST. JOSEPH

MUKASA PARISH.

Last Sunday August 9th, 2015 was historic at St. Joseph Mukasa Parish when Fr. Lazarous Mwansa made his first baptism as parish priest of Mary Nambela whose God parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chongo were very happy for their godchild. Fr. Mwansa added a light moment when he said he was a pro-ductive father to have given birth to a daughter so soon after becoming parish priest. It was on August 2nd, 2015 that Fr. Mwansa was installed as parish priest by Rev. Fr. Oliver Mukun-ta, ADL Vicar General, at a colourful Mass at St. Joseph Mukasa, which was also declared a quasi-parish under the South Deanery by decree signed by the Archbishop of Lusaka, His Grace Telesphore

At the August 2nd Mass, Mr. Linus Michelo, the par-ish vice chairperson, thanked all invited guests from various parishes and congregations for coming to witness the declaration of parish status and installa-tion of its first parish priest. Mr. Michelo appealed to parishioners and well wishers to support the parish as it tries to solve the challenges of the priest’s accommodation and his suitable transport in view of poor state of roads within the small Christian com-munities during the rain season.

COME TO THE BANQUET

Often times our understanding of a banquet is only in terms of the visualization of well set tables, decorated with flowers and full of sump-tuous food accompanied by a bar lined with ex-pensive bottles of wine. We also imagine well-dressed invited guests seated at the tables be-ing served by equally smart waiters and wait-resses. We also see the host or hostess moving up and down between the rows of tables greet-ing the invited guests and making sure that everyone is well catered for.

Anyone who has ever been invited to a ban-quet knows that some criteria is always used in the selection of the guests. The guests them-selves have to meticulously prepare themselves for the occasion. Pride also comes in just to be on the invited guests list, not to mention having a seat at the high table! On the other side of things, the host/ess also goes to great extents to ensure not only a good impression upon the guests but to guarantee their approval and sat-isfaction.

The above scenario contrasts very much with the Sunday Eucharist, the re-enactment of the Lord’s supper. Who is invited and how do we go about preparing ourselves for the divine banquet?

We, all of us without any segregation, have a standing invitation to the Lord’s supper, only needing to prepare our hearts to be pure and ready to receive the bread of life. For that ban-quet, social status is not critical. At that banquet all of us are put at the same level without dis-tinction.

The Eucharist is therefore, the greatest feast of all. All of us are given not only full measure of the gift of life, but in equal measure as well. To this banquet only we have the choice to re-fuse the invitation, not the one who has invited us. Make yourselves ready, we’re all invited.

Pope Pius X: Born Giuseppe Melchi-orre Sarto, June 2, 1835 in Riese, Italy. He was Pope from 4 Au-gust 1903 to his death in 1914. He was canon-ized in 1954. His predecessor was Pope Leo XIII, succes-sor: Pope Benedict XV. Perhaps nowhere in the history of the Church is

there a better example of a man possessed of so many of the saintly virtues—piety, charity, deep humility, pasto-ral zeal, and simplicity—than in one of the newest of God's elect, St. Pius X. Yet the parish priest of Tombolo, who remained a country priest at heart throughout his life, faced the problems and evils of a strife-torn world with the spiritual fervor of a crusader. The inscription on his tomb in the crypt of the basilica of St. Peter's gives the most eloquent testimony to a life spent in the service of God: "Born poor and humble of heart, Undaunted champion of the Catholic faith, Zealous to restore all things in Christ, Crowned a holy life with a holy death." Pius X labored for the Master until the very last days of his life. His 79 years had not set too heavily upon him, but overwork and anxiety over the impending doom of a World War I began to take their toll. Pius saw clearly the horrors of the coming conflict and felt helpless that he could not prevent it. A little more than a month after the outbreak of the war, the Pope was seized with an attack of influenza, and his weakened constitution could not combat the illness. The end for the Christ-like Pius came peacefully on August 20, 1914, and the world, though in the throes of a death struggle, paused to mourn the gentle and humble man whose last will and testament gave such an insight into his character. It read, in part, "I was born poor, I lived poor, I die poor." Shortly after his death, the faithful began to make pilgrimages to his tomb, bringing flowers, prayers, and petitions for favors. Accounts of miraculous favors and cures, some even accomplished during his lifetime and granted through his intercession, were announced and given widespread acclaim. Feast Day: August 21st.

MARRIED COUPLES ATTEND THEIR WORK-SHOP

Couples from various SCCs at the parish on Saturday July 11, 2015 converged at St Joseph Centre Hall where they had educative topics regarding marriage life. The facilitator was the Parish Priest Fr K. Mróz who gave touching issues to the delight of participants. Fr Mróz sent the audience into laughter when he said he mistook the workshop for a wedding reception due to its decoration. Col Emmanuel J. Msoni who was an interpreter made the event even more interesting. Prior to the workshop, Council of Catholic Men Chairperson Mr. Miza Phiri expressed disap-pointment at the poor turn out by couples de-spite receiving overwhelming response from SCCs. He however, thanked those who attend-ed the event and encouraged them to partici-pate fully during the deliberations of the day. And delivering a vote of thanks, Council of Cath-olic Men Vice Chairperson Mr Lawrence Chileshe said couples had learnt a lot from the parish priest and thanked him (Fr Mroz ) for his rich input. Mr Chileshe also thanked Col. Msoni for his beautiful translation. He echoed Mr Miza Phiri on the poor attendance during the event. He apologized for curtailing the last session of the workshop due to time factor. However, he thanked everybody for their participation in the event. Snacks and drinks were served to participants immediately after the workshop .
