We will kick off the summer with our 5th annual Clambake with entertainment from The Elderly Brothers, serving up oldies rock & roll with pitch perfect harmonies of 50’s & 60’s bandstand repertoire! In June we will travel to see the beautiful gardens at Elizabeth Park and enjoy the patriotic sounds of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. In July we will set sail on the Cross Sound Ferry and visit the Berkshire Botanical Gardens. August will include a trip to Lourdes in Litchfield and The New Britain Museum of Art. Our exercise program Get Fit will continue throughout the summer. Line dancing will end on June 12th and start back up in September. There's more of course, so take a peek inside! FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME!

The sun is out and the flowers are blooming—I love this time of year! We have many things planned for the upcoming months. We will kick off the summer with our 5th annual Clambake with entertainment from The Elderly Brothers, serving up oldies rock & roll with pitch perfect harmonies of 50’s & 60’s bandstand repertoire! In June we will travel to see the beautiful gardens at Elizabeth Park and enjoy the patriotic sounds of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. In July we will set sail on the Cross Sound Ferry and visit the Berkshire Botanical Gardens. August will include a trip to Lourdes in Litchfield and The New Britain Museum of Art. Our exercise program Get Fit will continue throughout the summer. Line dancing will end on June 12th and start back up in September. There's more of course, so take a peek inside!

Food Pantry/Thrift Shop – If you are in need of food assistance or are interest-ed in becoming a volunteer at the Food Pantry or Thrift Shop please contact So-cial Services. If you are a homebound resident or do not have transportation to get to the Friend to Friend Food Pantry, please contact Social Services. Fuel Bank name change to Emergency Assistance Fund – The Fuel Bank’s name has been changed to the East Granby Emergency Assistance Fund. The name change reflects the emergency needs of those facing financial hardship in East Granby. In addition to fuel, the fund provides help with critical needs such as housing, medical and energy assistance. The fund will continue to be sup-ported solely through donations and gifts from the community. 100% of the con-tributions to the fund are distributed for emergency assistance to East Granby residents who are income eligible. Good Samaritan Program – The Good Samaritan Program has volunteers who are interested in lending a hand to assist seniors with various tasks such as handyman jobs, yard maintenance, grocery shopping and friendly visits. Please call Social Services if you have a need and would like to be matched with one of our Good Sam volunteers or if you would like to become a volunteer yourself. Renters Rebate – The Elderly/Totally Disabled Renters Rebate Program is now open. State law provides a reimbursement program for CT renters who are el-derly or totally disabled, and whose incomes do not exceed certain limits. Per-sons renting an apartment or room, or living in cooperative housing or a mobile home may be eligible for this program. Application may be made at Social Ser-vices until October 1, 2018.

GREENWAY TRAIL WALK Saturday June 2, 2018

Join us for a casual trail walk sponsored by the East Granby Commission on Aging. We will meet at the Copper Hill Road entrance at 10:00am. All are invited so bring a friend, family member, and/or leashed pet. It’s a great way to meet new people, get some fresh air and exercise too. This will be a go at your own pace walk so it doesn’t matter if you are new to walking or experienced – it is sure to be fun for all! In the event of inclement weather this event will be cancelled and there will be no rain date. Please register by May 29th by calling Kelly Jacobs at (860) 413-3334 or emailing [email protected].

Our final luncheon of the 2018-2019 season will be held on June 8, 2018. For a reservation, please call Lorie Orzechowski (860) 658-6040 by June 5th. Friday June 22nd—Lunch Bunch-The Cook & the Bear & Rose Gardens in Elizabeth Park, West Hartford, CT. Let’s make a stop at the beautiful rose gardens before

we venture in for a delicious lunch. The roses will be in bloom and you can either get off the bus and take a leisurely stroll through the gardens or stay on the bus as it circles the

park. After stopping to smell the roses we will stop for a delicious lunch at The Cook & the Bear in West Hartford, featuring some of the best BBQ around! Depart the senior center at 10:30am. Reservations due by June 15th.

Monday, June 18th—West Brook Outlets—Bill’s Seafood—Depart the Senior

Center at 9:30 AM. Enjoy the bargains at the outlets and catch a delicious lunch! Cost of trip. $3.00—due by June 13th.

Friday June 29th—Talcott Mountain Music Festival- Celebrate America!—Simsbury, CT. Join us at our own table for one of Connecticut’s favorite Independence Day celebrations! Conducted by Adam Boyles, and featuring the Asylum Hill Congregational Church Choir, this program will include all of your patriotic favorites plus a tribute to

Leonard Bernstein. You will have your fingers snapping and toes tapping! Plus there will be fireworks following the concert! Pack your own picnic fare or order a boxed dinner for an extra charge. We will depart the Senior Center at 6:30pm. Cost is $38. Reservation and payment due by June 20th. (Rain date is Saturday June 30th)

Friday July 6th—Cross Sound Ferry Lights & Sights Cruise—New London,

CT, Get a new perspective on the history of Southern New England and Long Island when you do your sightseeing from the water aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled high-speed vessel. Enjoy views of nine lighthouses from New London to Long Island. We will

then take an architectural turn – paralleling the mainland coast out of New London Harbor to explore mansions and ritzy waterfronts from Watch Hill, RI to Fishers Island, NY. Cruise lasts approximately 2 hours. You don’t want to miss a wonderful day at sea! We will

Friday July 20th—Berkshire Botanical Gardens–Stockbridge, MA, Experience

the beauty of the Berkshires and enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful display gardens, one of the oldest in the Region. The Garden’s 15 acres have many paths to stroll the thousands of varieties of herbaceous and woody plants. We will enjoy a boxed lunch on the premises. We will depart the Senior Center at 9:30AM. Cost is $29 (includes lunch). Reservation

Friday, July 27th—Lunch Bunch—Goats & Roses—Marlborough, CT—Goats N

Roses is located on Carter Hill Farm, a family-friendly gathering spot, with goats, sheep, chickens, ducks and peacocks roaming the grounds. Enjoy a rare and exquisite farm to table dining experience. Esteemed Chef Kathy Denisiewicz is dedicated to healthy eating and uses farm fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and eggs in every dish they serve! The menu

offers a new twist on picnic like fare. Save room for dessert, too, as Goats N' Roses has also taken over the Hazy Mae's ice cream stand on site. Please note they accept Cash only. This event will be cancelled in the event of rain. Depart the Senior Center at 10:30 AM. Reservation by July 20th.

Friday, August 3rd—Lourdes in Litchfield–Litchfield, CT, The Shrine of Lourdes

in Litchfield is a replica of the Grotto Lourdes in France. Built of local fieldstone by two Montfort Brothers, Brother Alfonso and Brother Gabriel, with the help of Montfort seminarians and people from the area, the Shrine was dedicated in 1958. The Grotto is the site for Mass and other services held in the open air. In addition to participating in the

liturgy you can follow the Way of the Cross which winds up the Shrine’s wooded hillside to a Calvary Scene at the summit of the hill. You can also walk paths leading to smaller shrines of the Sacred Heart, St. Joseph, St. Jude, St. Michael, and St. Louis de Montfort. You may choose to attend the outdoor mass, tour some of the beautiful 170 acre wooded property or stop in to the Grotto gift shop. It’s sure to be a peaceful afternoon. We will stop for lunch on the way home. We will depart the Senior Center at 9:45AM. Cost is $2 (Lunch is on your own). Reservation and payment due by July 27th.

Friday August 10th—New Britain Museum of Art– New Britain, CT, Join us on

a docent led tour of the more than 8,300 paintings, works on paper, sculptures, photographs and illustrations by American artists. Among the highlights of the entire collection, the museum houses a fine selection of colonial and federal

portraits, Nineteenth-century still lifes and post-Civil War figural painting and sculpture. We will stop for lunch on the way home. Depart the Senior Center at 10:15AM. Cost is $15 (Lunch is on your own). Reservation & payment due by August 1st.

Friday, August 17th—Lunch Bunch—Farmer’s Kitchen—Granby, CT—Try this

newly opened local restaurant with a Farm to Table concept. Featuring the best of what the Farmington Valley has to offer, their fresh menu utilizes the great farms

of our area, incorporating all local farm provisions from vegetables, to fruit and dairy. Freshly baked goods, omelets, smoked meats, salads and sandwiches are just a few things they offer. Depart the Senior Center at 11:30 AM. Reservation by August 10th.

Friday, August 24th—P&R Summer Concert—East Granby, CT—Come out to the

Town Center Pavillion and enjoy the last blast of summer concert featuring the

premier country band—The Truck Stop Troubadours. Bus Transportation is available .

Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays- Join us on Sunday, July 15th for our bus trip to see the Red Sox take on their American League East Rivals at Fenway Park. We are lucky to have seats in right field box #87 for this game (under the retired numbers). Our bus will leave East Granby Community Center at 10:45am(for the 1:35pm game start time) Seating is limited. Cost $119pp.
