MASS INTENTIONS
DID YOU KNOW?
Remember who is most important in a suspected abuse situation It can be difficult to investigate abuse situations
involving children, as they may be vulnerable to lies,
threats or manipulation by the abuser. It is critical to
remember that the victim is the most important in a
suspected abuse situation. Keeping the child in focus
will help adults who suspect abuse act with
compassion and care to keep the child from further
pain. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® article

Catechism Question
Our readings for this Sunday, concern how the Prophecies in Scripture all lead towards the Lord God's intent to redeem Jacob, to redeem Israel, to redeem the Jews and finally, to redeem All Nations, the Gentiles.
How does our Catholic Church teach us to understand broadly, how and why such prophecies are made and completed?
Hint: CCC 707 - 716
Next week, we will take the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our broth-ers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Please be generous. Cantor!
We are in need of a substitute/Relief Cantor for The 8am Sunday Mass. You don't need to read
music, just have a decent voice and a willingness to serve in a very rewarding ministry. "He who
Sings, prays twice." (St. Augustine)

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION It’s midsummer day! We have the advantage of celebrating one of the great hidden treasures of our li-turgical calendar on a Sunday this year. There are only three “nativity” feasts on our calendar: for the Lord, the Blessed Mother (September 8), and today’s birth of the Baptist. Today’s date is anchored by the Annunciation (March 25), when Mary learns not only of her own child’s advent, but of Elizabeth’s child. We are exactly half a year away from Christmas Eve. There are strong traditions around this feast. Just as the winter solstice provides a rich vocabulary for Christmas, so does the abundance of light at midsummer inform this celebra-tion. Just as at Christmas, a religious festival spills over into culture. As summer light reaches its peak, the sun-drenched zones of northern Europe see people staying up all night, lighting “St. John’s fires” in the long sum-mer twilight. Bonfires seem to be the unifying force in all these celebrations, kindled along the shores of the St. Lawrence in Quebec and Montreal, with harbor illu-minations in France. You may be most interested in the custom in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Baptist’s own city. People there will leap into the sea between mid-night and dawn to honor John. Why not find your way to a pool, a lake, or a sandy beach today and plunge in to recall your baptism? It’s a tradition! —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
The Catholic Daughters pray the Patriotic Rosary the first Monday of every month immediately after the 8 am
Mass. We pray for every state and office and for the conversion of our country. Patriotic Rosary Booklets will be available for 50 cents each. The rosary is prayed all other Mondays after
Mass for world peace.
All parishioners are invited to join us!
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS PANCAKE BREAKFAST
JOHN THE BAPTIST Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the Church has the opportunity for a more intense celebration of the birth of John the Baptist, who is often described as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the bridge be-tween Judaism and Christianity. More commonly, John is known as the “precursor” of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report John’s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near at hand. One greater than I is coming. Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John’s legacy is one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: “You are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I show my glo-ry” (Isaiah 49:3). John’s humility—“I am not he”—was surpassed only by that of his Lord Jesus, the humble servant who followed. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
