Dynamic Catholic, Alive! - Prayer We hear in this week’s Gospel about how Jesus visited John the Baptist and was baptized with water. We also hear that after His baptism, Je-sus took time to pray. Jesus was commissioned by God for a large and vital mission, and He knew that He only had three short years to ac-complish it! His example shows us that no matter how busy we are or how much we have to do it is vital that we take time to pray. In fact, the examples shown by Jesus and many of the saints teach us that the need to take time to pray grows with the busyness of our lives. Please, Jesus, instill in all of us the desire to build a deeper relationship with you through prayer. Amen. archstl.org/dynamic

Month of January Offertory Gifts

$

Plumbing Repair Fund

$ 23,210.00

($50,000.00 goal)

It takes $141,000 in monthly general contributions to meet our Parish Offertory Budget. Thank you for your generosity!

Fall into Giving through Faith Di-rect, which is the most convenient and secure way for you to make your weekly offering to St. Justin Martyr. Your automatic contribu-tions through Faith Direct will save valuable time for both you and our parish staff. Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: MO884.

Stewardship “John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water;

but he who is mightier than I is coming…he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit... ’” (Luke 3:16)

The Catholic Catechism states that “Jesus’ immersion in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God’s will.” In other words, as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we need to give to Jesus – the gift of ourselves. Surrender yourself to God, place your trust in Him and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you for the greater glory of God.

Fiat Women’s Group All women are invited to Kenrick-

Glennon Seminary (5200 Glennon Drive, 63119) on the third Thurs-day of each month for prayer and a talk. The next meeting will be on January 17th. The speaker will be Father Fadi Auro, Assis-tant Professor of Philosophy at Kenrick Glennon Seminary. The Rosary will be prayed at 8 a.m., and Father Fadi will speak from 8:15 a.m. until 9 a.m. Coffee will be offered afterwards in the Fireside Lounge until 9:30 a.m. For more information or to watch videos from past Fiat talks, see: www.kenrick.edu/fiat.

Parish Library Parents, you can use the books on the Children’s shelves during Mass for your young ones. But, PLEASE return them to the library yellow basket after Mass. You do not need to check them out unless you want to take them home. Since the children’s books get used the most, new books like the following are being added: THE CHRISTMAS GIFT (El regalo de Navidad) is a beautifully illustrated read-to book about the plight of a migrant worker and his family. Written in English and Spanish, this true story reveals how this family celebrated Christmas in spite of their poverty. MAX GIVES THANKS TO GOD is a book of inspirational nursery rhymes just the right size for little hands. GOD MADE WONDERFUL ME! is an interactive book the young ones will enjoy.

Pastor’s Pen Of Calendar items and events on the horizon…

Catholic Schools week is scheduled for the last full week this January. An open house kicks off the week – from 8am till 11am. (note the shortened hours). Tuesday will find Frs. Kempf and Johnson doing a Q and A with the students. Wednesday is the always popular lunch with your (biological) family members. Assorted dress up days and dress down days are sprinkled through the week. Friday finds us closing the week with our all school mass. It is a good way to celebrate all the good that God does through our parish school! And, because I can never say it enough, thanks to our amazing faculty and staff for all the love and effort they put into your ministry. What a gift you are to our school families. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- Our annual Celebration of Blessings event is just 2 months away. This year’s event will follow the traditional auction routine. Though you will find more information elsewhere in this bulletin, we need your help to solicit donors and sponsors and to purchase and/or donate the items that you will then bid on and buy back on March 9th at the Li’una event center.

One of the changes for this year involves electronic bidding. No more standing in lines, fighting to be the last one to get your bid in. Now, it all happens either through your phone or through a device (an ipad) that will be provided. People will be there to help you learn how to place a bid, or to place the bids with you all evening. Updates on the status of your bids will be sent to you throughout the evening. You can place a bid that will automatically update itself to a certain dollar amount (eg: I would be willing to bid $100 maximum on that set of Cardinal Memorabilia) Your ‘bid’ would go up incrementally each time you are outbid by someone else. Theoretically speaking, you would never have to leave your table.

So, mark your calendars, solicit those donations and sponsorships, and take advantage of the early registration incentive by reserving your space now for the 2019 version of the SJM Celebration of Blessings on March 9, 2019.

----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- Finally, as an FYI, I have the chance to get away for a Monday through Friday trip to sunny Florida, in January, and then for a Saturday to Saturday trip to our island paradise of Turks and Caicos in February. Fr. Johnson and the staff will keep things running smoothly in my absence. And know how to reach me in case of emergency…

Thank You Thanks once again for your generosity, we were able to provide Christmas for 7 families. We are so grate-ful to have the opportunity to assists our Neighbors in Need, and could not be as generous without your assistance. If you are interested in becoming a member of St. Justin St. Vincent dePaul, please con-tact us through the SVDP answer line, 843-8482 ext. 2701 and someone will contact you and provide further information about the organization.

Need Your Help! Need driver(s) to take St. Justin Martyr parishioner to 7:30 a.m. Mass one Sunday a month. Call Deacon Chris Winkelmann for more details 843-8482 ext. 2720. Thank you.

Collecting 2019 Calendars I am collecting unwanted 2019 calendars for a nurs-ing home. If you have calendars to donate, please leave them in the church library by January 28. They are much appreciated. Thanks.

Save the Date! School Open House January 27th!

All of our students and staff invite you to our Annual Open House on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 8-

11am. We are so grateful for your wonderful support of school. Our Ambassadors would love to give you a tour, or you can wander through school by yourself. We are so proud of all we do, we’d love to show it all to

you.

Thought of the Week "LOVING FATHER, at the Baptism of your Son your voice

was OUR CONSOLATION, OUR HOPE, AND OUR JOY. CON-SOLE US AGAIN THROUGH YOUR WORD, JESUS CHRIST,

WHO IS OUR LORD, NOW AND FOREVER. AMEN."

5th Grade Girl Scouts Live Their The fifth grade Girl Scouts of SJM just completed their requirements for the “I Live My Faith” award. Throughout the process, they learned more about their Catholic faith, including that all of God’s crea-tion is important. In emphasizing the need to care for all parts of creation, they practiced service for their fellow humans, as well as animals. They learned the importance of prayer; practicing tradi-tional methods, as well as ways to make prayer and religious learning fun. As they learned more about the importance of receiving the Sacraments, they want to encourage all of our parish family to renew their personal relationship with God in the new year through fun, prayer and the Sacraments. The girls thank their parish family for the ongoing support and hope you’ll join them to be recognized for their award at this year’s Girl Scout Mass on March 10 at 11am.

Girl Scouts of St. Justin Serve Donuts this Sunday After All Masses

The Girl Scout troops of St. Justin are honored to serve donuts to our parishioners this weekend. Last month we really enjoyed crafting

with and caroling to residents at Bethesda Dilworth Senior Living. This month we kick off the 101st sea-son of cookie sales to help us raise money for earn-ing badges and camping trips. Next month our 7th grade Cadette troop will serve the visitors of Room at the Inn as part of their Silver award. In March we will celebrate the religious awards we earn with a special Mass. In April we will collect much needed personal care items to restock food pantries as part of our April Showers event. In May we will help place flags at the grave sites of the brave soldiers buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Memorial Day. We would like to thank all of you for your support.

Let’s Do Lunch! SAJE day trips return on Wednesday, January 16, when we trek to Sisters Tea House in Old Towne Fen-ton. The Tea House, which is on the Navajo historical registry, has served as the Holz Hotel, the Navajo Ho-tel, and possibly a brothel (but not in that order) prior to its present incarnation. The House features many unique and charming pieces of bric a brac, as well as a light lunch which is reasonably priced. Meet at St. Eliz-abeth of Hungary upper parking lot at 11:00 AM and we will carpool from there. For reservation either call Mary 314-822-4736 or email [email protected].

Perhaps you are thinking about making Saint Justin Martyr your home parish. We are happy to help you become a registered parishioner and welcome you to our faith community. If you are interested in joining our parish, please call the Parish Office 314-843-

8482. If you are interested in attending Saint Justin Martyr School call the School Office at 314-843-6447.

Need help putting names with faces? You’ll love our directory!

The parish online directory is an excellent tool to help parishioners get to know each other and build com-munity. You can access the directory from the SJM

homepage under “parish links” or bookmark this link: https://stjustinmartyr.ctrn.co/directory/index.php.

Your username is your first name and last name com-bined, e.g., “john smith”. There is a new password reset feature on the login page to access your pass-

word if you have forgotten it. Please upload a picture if you have not yet done

so. DON’T MISS OUT ON THE AWESOME AND CONVENIENT MOBILE APP!

You can download the free mobile app by searching “CTRN Online Directory” at your app store. You will be asked for our mobile privacy code. It is stjustinmartyr. When the app opens, enter your username and pass-word, and select “remember me.” This is super handy to help with names when you are out and about at parish events and one of Fr. Bill’s favorite features! If you have any questions, please email [email protected]
