SymptomsPrimary Stage

Painless reddish sore at genitals.

In men, sores occur on the penis, not painful.

In women, sores occur on the outside of of vagina or the inside of the vagina, not painful or noticeable.

The chancre lasts for usually 28 to 42 days.

Chancre are highly infectious and may be difficult to notice.

If not treated, infection moves on to secondary stage.

2 to 6 weeks for ulcer to heal.

Secondary Stage of Syphilis

The secondary stage of syphilis will occur from 3 to 6 weeks if the first stage has not been treated.

You might feel tired or like you are getting the flu.

Some white patches on the tongue or mouth come.

Hair loss becomes common and it might come out in patches.

Syphilis is very contagious here and can be spread to a partner during sex.

Warts grow on the anus in both men and women.

Latent Stage and Tertiary Stage

Infection can be diagnosed by a blood test.

If not treated, stage moves on to the Tertiary stage.

Usually develops after 10 years, can become very serious like affecting the heart and nervous system.

Symptoms may disappear making people think that it is gone.

Damage to the heart and blood vessels are slow and steady.

Serious enough to cause death.

Treatments

°Antibiotic treatment like Penicillin can treat syphilis.

°If the correct medicines are taken in the first two stages, it can be cured and gone.

°If it is taken in the later stages it doesn’t completely cure it but it stops more damage from happening.

Damage that has happened before you take the medicine is nearly impossible to cure.

Medicines that can kill the virus are taken and preferred.

A singe shot of Penicillin can stop the disease from doing more damage.

Agents

Spirochete, is a small bacterium that causes Syphillis.

Long and slender bacteria.

Look like miniature springs or telephone cords.

They also cause Lyme Disease.

Consequences

Syphilis can damage vital organs, the heart, liver, kidneys, and nervous system.

If syphilis is untreated, it can lead to heart failure, strokes, and seizures.

If it is untreated it can lead to more diseases.

If you’re pregnant and have syphilis, you can pass it to your child.

The consequences can be very severe, like death.
