underneath with a popped collar. Khaki pants,

Topsider Deck Shoes.

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS:

Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date, so you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same participation level, but these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the mystery to be sleuthed appropriately. What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take a deep breath…it’s

not the end of the world.

• If you have an extra optional player that is coming to the party - give them a call and tell them they’ll need to switch characters. Hopefully, this isn’t the day of the party because no doubt, this player has his/her costume ready. However, you can allow them to wear the costume that they purchased or created, as their nametag will let the other guests know whom they are playing during the party.

• Missing a required player and no optional characters playing the game? Don’t panic. You will have to give us a call if you want to keep it a surprise (1-800-714-3951; M-F, 10AM -3PM Central) or email [email protected] (we make every attempt to monitor this email throughout the weekends and holidays) so we can tell you if your murderer / victim are still intact. We can tell you what to do if a certain required character cancels, and you don’t have an optional character replacement. It might be all right as it is and if this is the case, you’ll need to post the missing required character’s clue on a wall for each round and just explain to the other guests what the deal is – “you’re missing a required player but all of the information is available to the guests in this character’s clue cards.” (Post the missing players’ clue card at the designated time for each round along with the other players - not all at once!)

• If you don’t care about the surprise and / or have already looked at who the murderer (& victim) is by viewing the clue cards, simply ensure they are still playing. The victim is disclosed through their Round Two clue card and the murderer is disclosed on the Round Three solution card. You might need to switch one required character over to play the no-show murderer (or victim). If you do this, do as described in #2 and post the missing character’s clue cards on the wall during each round. You can add comedy to this situation and make a stuffed dummy of this character. Post the clues to where the chest would be or in the hands! You’ll be surprised as your guests might start to ‘mingle’ with this effigy in good humor.

The following is the list of characters for the guests for the day of the party

(no costume suggestions or required v. optional designations)

Get ready for an exciting murder mystery party! This party is an intriguing mystery game where the players act the roles of interesting personalities while sleuthing the captivating story line. This is an excellent choice for your next get together! PREPARING YOUR KIT: The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clue cards, slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your game on the http://mymysteryparty.com/props/ site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s sake, an alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll with the character/round. We demonstrate how to do this in our instructional videos at www.mymysteryparty.com/videos In these printed instructions; however, we will assume you are using the envelope method for each character, each round. GENERAL HOSTING: During the party, your job as the host player is to make sure the rounds flow properly.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

UPGRADE YOUR DOWNLOAD IF YOU WISH TO KEEP THE MYSTERY A SURPRISE: For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’ party pack option from the http://mymysteryparty.com/upgrade-your-download/ site, and we will prepare your game for you. OPTIONAL PLAYERS: This mystery comes with both required and optional characters. There are optional characters in this mystery. If you do not have guests for these optional characters, simply omit the clues of these guests and / or only print the guests’ clue cards that will be at the party. If you need to have unique characters added, check the game page to see if there is an available expansion pack for this game – go back to the page where you purchased this game and click on the link for the expansion pack under ‘helpful links.’ To see if any are available, you can also scroll to the bottom of the game’s page under ‘Other Details’ to determine how far this game may be expanded.

OPTIONAL PROPS: We also offer mystery props on the My Mystery Party site in the Prop Emporium including a thunderstorm ambiance 10 minute sound wav to play in the background, crime scene barrier tape, crime scene balloons, mystery investigation pens, white face makeup for the victim, victim t-shirts, victim’s halo, chalk line body silhouette and even instrumental rap beats as a downloadable mp3 for the optional but highly suggested bonus game rap contest. We sell envelope packs in different colors for the 4 rounds. There is a ‘Do You Think You Can You Dance’ mp3 track for the Do You Think You Can Dance challenge as well. Feel free to set up a mock crime scene using the crime scene tape, body silhouette mat and evidence marker cards available at our prop store. However, only set up the crime scene after the victim is unveiled and do not use for sleuthing – it’s just for a fun effect and photo opportunity for your guests. GAME STRUCTURE: The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows:

these optional pre-game tasks are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These tasks are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way. Also, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party - http://yourmysteryparty.com/eighties website to get them excited about your game (this has shown to decrease the amount of no-shows to your party).

Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. Deliver these clues while you serve dinner (optional) to your guests.

Deliver these clues with coffee/hot cocoa and dessert.

Note: you do NOT have to serve dinner, this is only suggested and the instructions tell you ‘when’ to serve it and what to do around the time you serve it. You also do not have to serve dessert – again, it is only a suggestion. You can simply skip both without a problem and just serve snacks/appetizers the entire time.

ASSIGNING CHARACTERS: you assign the character roles – do not send your guests the invites or link to the guest pre-game site and have them choose their characters. This is far too much work, confusing for

everyone, and nearly impossible for them to choose a separate character and fill in your required player spots. You assign the players from the host character list in this file. First, fill in your required spots with your most outgoing and dependable players. Then, use the optional players in any combination. They won’t know they

The game can be shortened by excluding the optional activities, or lengthened by adding more bonus games.

7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made (optional) and receive a refreshment / cocktail for adults. The guests will view the guest instructions and character list while they wait for everybody to arrive. The host should build in at least a 10 minute cushion for guests to arrive late. Hey, it happens. 7:10 PM: The host reads the guest instructions to the group. It is optional to have each guest introduce their character in front of the group. Play the video game trailer on Your Mystery Party for your game &/or read the game synopsis from Your Mystery Party to the group to give the premise. 7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out and the game begins. The guests mingle and reveal the clues on their clue cards. It’s just like a normal party, but the guests remain in character and gossip about each other’s characters. The motives & story lines will start to unveil. 7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. Bonus activities keep the energy flowing and the guests have a blast. They are optional, but highly suggested. The players must remain in character. 8:05 PM: Optional to serve dinner. Dinner can be sit down or buffet – or even as simple as a pizza that’s delivered! You can also just serve appetizers/snacks during the party. 8:35 PM: The Round Two envelopes are handed out to the guests and pre-murder clues are discussed. 8:55 PM: The victim becomes the victim and the host passes out the investigation sheets to the players. The guests interrogate each other to determine whodunit. The full story is in the player clue cards, but the guests will have to be skilled at asking the right questions of each other, etc. 9:10 PM: The forensic analysis report is revealed and within ~5-10 minutes, everybody submits their formal guess of whodunit. 9:20 PM: Optional accusation round – the guests can take turns formally accusing who they think did it, and why. You’ll be surprised at how everybody’s inner actor will surface during this activity. 9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (optional) are served and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to the guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each of the guests and the murderer will confess at the conclusion of the round. The murderer is notified in their round three solution card that they are the murderer. They will not know or have any advantage over anybody of knowing whodunit before this round. *If you do not opt to have the optional players read their final solutions in front of the group, give them a few minutes to mingle and share their solutions after the murderer confesses. 9:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. 10:10 PM: An optional award ceremony. My Mystery Party has award certificates of all kinds that you can purchase in the Prop Emporium. The host can determine who receives the awards while the bonus game is being played. Some awards are traditional and some are snarky but hilarious! 10:30 PM: Game over!

We hope you have a fabulous time at your party. If you have a fun time, please share your

success story and pics on our Facebook Page (My Mystery Party) and we will be glad to show you our appreciation with a loyalty coupon code for your next party!

HELPFUL HINTS FOR THE GUESTS - GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY PARTY: You are about to enjoy three rounds of game play. Each round, you will receive an

envelope with a clue card containing the information you need to play the role of your character.

ROUND ONE: will break the ice, build your character and establish motives for the crime (i.e. murder). Take time to get to know the other characters, and focus on the story line that is building around you. There are two sets of clues on your card: those to reveal as you mingle with others and personal clues to conceal. As in real life, you know more about your character than anybody else in the room. Do not worry, if these secrets about your character need to come out to solve the mystery, they will. Use these personal clues to help you decide how to react to others during the game.

Character G - ROUND ONE CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND

• Ask Character M what it is like living with his sensei, Mr. Meeyoda. You heard that he makes him do chores all day. ‘What kind of training is that?’ He is more of a custodian of the Meeyoda estate.

• You would never eat a Mogwai burger, as that’s grody to the max!

• Talk about your vampire bat farm. You have thousands of bats. See if anyone would like to have one as a pet. They are much more fun than Mogwai. (Mogwai are small, furry animals that are the first stage of the Gremlin life cycle. A Gremlin is a destructive monster.)

• Ask Character S what his plans are for his next film. You enjoyed his last film about an alligator hunter.

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL • You and your friends are leagues above all of these

people, as your group of friends are some of the wealthiest people in the nation. You are here at this party to make sure that if Muffy Bangles and her friends show up, that their honor is respected at all costs.

• Character J keeps staring at some of the girls at this party. You think it is your duty to keep him away from the girls, as he is a total loser. Keeping him occupied with idle chitchat is one way to keep him distracted.

ROUND TWO CARDS: cut out, slip into envelopes and label with the character and round. Character s – ROUND TWO

PRE-MURDER CLUES: Tell Character B you’ve reconsidered, and now he has

30 minutes to come up with the cash. You only accept cash.

Ask Character W what is bothering her. She looks a little stressed out, and you want to know if there is anything you can do for her. You will offer your services because you’re a fan.

Ask Character B if she needs help writing her next big hit. She can do a mob song if she wants.

POST-MURDER CLUES: Your prints won’t be on the murder weapon – even

though it was on a table in the party room for most of the evening. You don’t do your own dirty work or play with toys.

Many people left the party room tonight. You’re in an exclusive club in Beverly Hills, and many people left the party area to check out the other rooms. Many were missing from the room around the time of the murder. You’ll need to figure out who those people were.

You’ve been here many times and had no need to do a tour to see the club. You never left the party room once the party started.

You need to figure out whodunit, and quick, because you are currently being investigated by the feds for other crimes and don’t need any heat on you.

Of course I didn’t murder Character T. Just minutes before s/he died, s/he apologized for

calling me a nerd and agreed to help us to release a ten foot alligator into the Beta Alpha house. So now I’m going to murder whoever

murdered him/her!

The following characters are to read their solutions next in this order: (Skip over characters that are not

guests at this party and go to the next). Character J, Character I, Character K, Character O
