Study Grants Overview (cont.) As a seminarian, experiencing

varied social contexts at home and

abroad will help to enrich a

missional perspective and deepen

an understanding of ministry in a

multicultural world. A Study Grant

can help enhance awareness of the

relationship between the world, the

church’s mission, and your own

calling,.

These funds might also be accessed

by a PCUSA college chaplain,

seminarian, or other student

religious/education leader who

wants to put together an

experience for students to engage

the wider world and to think

theologically about what they are

discovering and learning.

What an honor for the Synod to be

a part of the life of a student who is

surprised by God’s call and future

vocational direction!

Imagine experiencing God in new places

The Synod of the Trinity is seeking

to support students (both under-

graduate and graduate) who are

members of the Presbyterian

Church (U.S.A.) to enable them to

participate in “action/reflection”

experiences either in this country

or abroad. It is the hope that

these experiences will combine

service and deep cultural engage-

ment as part of the student’s

journey in discovering God’s call.

The Synod of the Trinity's Undergraduate

and Graduate funding is a response to our

Reformed tradition's commitment to edu-

cation and to its theology of vocation.

Briefly stated, our tradition values

knowledge of self, others and the world

as integral to gaining knowledge of God.

Thus, commitment to education lies at the

core of our affirmations and efforts. More-

over, such integrated knowledge enables

each of us to grasp the calling, the voca-

tion which God invites us to embrace. To

paraphrase Presbyterian minister and

writer Frederick Buechner, we individually

discover God's calling when our heart's

deepest gladness intersects with meeting

a profound need of the world. These Syn-

od of the Trinity study grants are intended

to reflect this theological understanding of

education and discovery.

Imagine…….

As an undergraduate, you have the

opportunity to learn about brothers

and sisters in Christ who may live in a

different cultural and economic reality

than ours. A Study Grant could assist

you as you reflect on and discover,

with the guidance of a leader

(perhaps a college chaplain or a

seminarian), how this experience

informs your faith and life choices.
