Over the next month we will be doing a series of chamber concerts at Cape Fear Botanical Garden that take you on a trip through the USA, featuring music from New Orleans, Detroit, NYC and DC. This October will be our first year hosting our Jazz & Wine Fest Fundraiser - an evening to be filled with great jazz performed by jazz bands and a capella groups from UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke, Methodist, UNC Pembroke, and many more! We then start our season with Bee- thoven and Blue Jeans in October featuring a performance of Beethoven’s 7th symphony, and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto featuring FSO’s own Nate Ley- land (cello), Fabian Lopez (violin), and Scott Marosek (piano). We end the 2015 year with our Holiday Pops concert featuring International Guest Vocalist and Ft. Bragg Military Spouse Kaitlyn Lusk, most known for her role in Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings Symphony singing the academy award winning song “Into the West.” We start off 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with two chamber concerts - one featuring two Bach Brandenburg Concertos, the second featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. In February, we perform a Valentine’s Day special - Love Stories: A Date with the Symphony - a perfect concert to bring your special someone to as you hear some of the most romantic classical works written. March brings a family favorite - Lights, Camera, Symphony! - featuring movie music from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Sound of Music, and much more. We end our season in April with a joint performance of Carmina Burana with the Cumberland Oratorio Singers. FALL CONCERT SERIES AT THE GARDENDuring September through October a select group of FSO musicians will be performing at Cape Fear Botanical Garden as part of the Fall Concert Series at the Garden. This year, our musicians will be taking you on a trip without having to leave town! Starting in New Orleans and ending in our Nation’s Captiol, you will hear the music of four different cities across the US. All concerts start at 6:30pm, and will be held outdoors at the beautiful venue of Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase, with a beer and wine cash bar. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair and/or blanket to sit on! As weather is always unpredicatable, in the case of rain the concerts will be moved indoors, but not cancelled!

The Fayetteville Symphony Youth Orchestra (FSYO) will be starting its second season this fall under the direction of Mr. Huadong Lu. Any student ages 11-20 can register, with no audition required. Instruments needed include: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and percussion. Rehearsals are every Sunday from 6pm-8pm in the Fayetteville Academy Band Room.

This year there will be two end-of-semester concerts, one on Sunday, December 13th, and another on Sunday, May 15th, as well as a side-by-side concert opportunity with the

professional musicians of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra on our Lights, Camera, Symphony! concert on March 12. Any student interested in joining can find out how to register online at

ABOUT THE CONDUCTOR SEARCH PROCESS

Concerto CompetitionAs of September 1st, we will be accepting applications for our 2015-2016 Harlan Duenow Young Artist Concerto

Competition. Any instrumental student ages 12-21 (born after March 31, 1995) that is a full-time legal resident of North Carolina or a military family member stationed in North Carolina can apply. Applications are due by January 5th, 2016. The

winner of the competition will receive a $2,000 cash prize, as well as the opportunity to solo with the Fayetteville Symphony on the April 16th concert.

The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the formation of our transition committee. The committee will be chaired by Frank Till (retired upper school principal at The Fayetteville Academy) and will include the following committee members:

The transition to a new music director is a two year process. The position will be advertised this fall. The selection process will take place January through April of 2016. By May 2016, the committee will announce our “final four.” These top four candidates will each be invited to conduct a concert during our 2016-2017 season. You, the audience, will be encouraged to attend and provide feedback to the committee during the final four concert season. By late spring of 2017 we will announce the new music director.

This will be an exciting period for our orchestra and our community and we welcome your participation and appreciate your support.
