“masks and make-ups

As people, we often (or always) wear masks…On the TV and media, politicians and public figures are nothing but actors or clowns that they’re good enough to have make-ups and masks on their faces.

In this Serapio play, the characters have make-ups/masks for this very reason.

Mang Serapio (the character himself) does not have a make-up on his face because he is bare, he is common, he has nothing much to hide.

PULUBI AT FEDERACION…

Paul Dumol/Original Version

• “Pulubi” are the people or simply beggars who are part/members of the “Federacion”, or the organization of beggars; which is run by the beggars, for the beggars.

• The pulubis are also called as “kasapi” since they are members of this organization.

• Pulubis are depicted to be beggars, simply put.

THIS own version

• “Pulubi” is the other term for Filipinos, and “Federacion” being the Philippines.

• The pulubis are known to be “pulubis” by nationality; and their country known to be the “Bansang Federacion”, or “The Pearl of the Orient Seas”.

• Pulubis are depicted to be regular people: accountants, doctors/psychologists, engineers, nurses, farmers, laborers, you, me, your friends, etc.

• “Federacion” can mean both the country, and the “government”, depending on the context/usage.

JANET

• An “original character”, which means this character is not found or part in the original Mang Serapio drama of Paul Dumol.

• Simply, she symbolizes… NAPOLES. • BUT, since this certain character doesn’t have a surname in this

drama, she also might as well represent or symbolize any other politicians or figures leeching in the government.

• Garbages found on the stage’s setting are BOOKS.

• Books (your textbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc) symbolize EVERY KNOWLEDGE you have, which, as long as you’re here in the Philippines, means nothing. AT ALL.
