DECEMBER12 | ENVY | 007

This is our first issue of ENVY and we are proud of the way it has come together. It’s packed with gorgeous summer fashion pieces, style updates and all your Christmas gift ideas for the festive season ahead.

Sylvia Park has undergone big changes in the last six months with over 20 new stores opening their doors, so we felt it was important to show you what we had by putting it in your hands.

While we understand online retailing is creating its own mark in the way we shop, sensory in-store shopping is becoming more and more pronounced and our retailers are working very hard to bring you an indulgent experience which will go a long way to

help validate your shopping trip. But to be honest, who needs a reason to shop, it’s Christmas, that’s validation enough!

Enjoy the magazine, we really loved creating it and hope you love it too.

The journey so far... The journey so far...

Orange Label Wines

It started in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand with the two Mason brothers , David and Mark, friend Tony Bish and a bit of fun...more than 25 years on it’s still in the family, theres plenty of fun and a whole lot more people.

Its been quite a journey...

When the Sacred Hill Team rst started making wine, it was because the Mason boys and Tony were thirsty, like a challenge and had su cient levels of humour to actually give it a go.

Through fun, friendship, guts and talent, the voyage through the formative years to the accomplished winery of today has seen Sacred Hill craft some of New Zealand’s most desired and iconic wines.

Every member of the Sacred Hill team believes that if you have the place, the people, a love for the land and what you do – it will show up in the wine. And sure enough it has, with memorable, award winning wines of great texture, re ecting their origins.

Regional New Zealand wines that consistently deliver high quality and true varietal style.

Available at:

During the month of December Sacred Hill is at Garrisons as Wine of the Month.

AMBIENT PGTo Set Up

SPIRIT MEETS SPACE AND STYLEWith all the changes in the retail offer at Sylvia Park we knew we needed to give the foodcourt a facelift after six years of operating at full capacity and in February of next year you will see these changes taking place.

follow us on Facebook

The essence of the brief detailed the need for space, an indoor outdoor feel and a place to relax in.

This is what the architects felt would offer the best possible solution to an extremely busy area. ‘The vision and design of the food court extension will capture the spirit of a modern conservatory. New indoor space will be double height, filled with natural light which will offer excellent connectivity to landscaped outdoor areas. The playground will be removed and relocated to the west of the new extension, offering greater shelter, better internal access and improved visibility for parents enjoying a coffee or meal indoors. North facing windows will be able to be opened which will offer el fresco dining in the warmer weather.

“Get glowing this summer with Pure Fiji’s Sugar Rub. Discover the benefits of raw sugar cane with Pure Fiji’s blend of exotic drifts nuts to exfoliate and deeply moisturize. Leaving healthy looking skin & an island glow” RRP $66.50 available at About Face

Get theTo create Mikayla’s look this summer first prep your damp hair with Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam and Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray into the roots and right through the lengths. Using a hairdryer dry the hair making sure it is 100% dry, this will help set the hair and make it more manageable. 100%! Using a large barrel curling tong curl sections of the hair (there should be about 10 sections) and clip the curl up against the head. Leave the set in for a few minutes, this will help give your hair a nice soft wave then brush the hair out. Once you have brushed out your hair to your desired style, spray some Redken Quick Tease 15 Finishing Spray into the crown area of your head and backcomb the top half of the hair to give volume. To finish off your beautiful locks, lightly mist Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray to help keep the style in all day and all night.

Make up planMikayla’s great natural fresh looks were created by the use of Shiseido makeup.

We applied a pre-makeup foundation base first; Shiseido Refining Foundation, by spreading the foundation from the centre of the face to the outer areas of the face, starting with the cheeks, then the forehead. We then applied the foundation thinly around the eyes and mouth and then blended it at the hairline and the jaw line to soften the borders.

For the cheeks we applied Shiseido’s RD 103 Blush starting just below the cheekbone and shading along the cheek in an oval shape.

For the eyes we decided to keep the colour natural with Shiseido’s eye shadow BR 209, Eyeliner, BR602, Mascara BK901 and Eyebrows BR704.

For the lips we drew the lip outline and then filled in with Shiseido’s Lip Colour BE208 maintaining the natural look.

To complete the look we finished off with Shiseido’s Sheer Matt Powder as a bronzer.

THE PERFECT

COFFEE

Columbus Coffee1. Would you say coffee is your specialty? Yes definitely!! Columbus Coffee built it’s reputation on coffee. We are very proud of the unique Columbus Blend that we serve our customers every day. The first Columbus was opened in 1995 and our goal today is the same as it was on that first day in 1995: To bring you the best and freshest coffee available anywhere in the world and to make it as easy as possible for you to buy. Coffee must be fresh - freshly roasted, freshly ground and freshly brewed.

However our food is also fantastic! Our chefs make every item in our own on-site kitchen. Our coffee has been described as ‘divine’ and our food (eggs benny is a favourite with our customers) ‘magic’.

2. How important is a good barista to the taste of coffee? Very important. Columbus Coffee spend a lot of time making sure that our coffee beans are delivered fresh to us and a good barista is extremely important to continue to deliver exceptional coffee to each customer that comes through our door.

3. Coffee Art. Talented or Tacky? Definitely talented! People appreciate a beautiful plate of food and they also appreciate a well presented coffee is no exception. Our customers feel special when our baristas take the extra time on their individual coffee and add some latte art to it.

4. Describe Columbus Coffee Shop in 5 words. Popular, friendly, excellent food & coffee, great service, warm, relaxing environment.

Gloria Jeans Coffee1. Would you say coffee is your specialty? The Gloria Jeans Coffee story began in the USA in 1979 when Gloria Jean and Ed Kvetko opened a specialty gourmet coffee outlet in a small town just north of Chicago. More than 16 years later Nabi Saleh, an Australian businessman and coffee expert, experienced the brand while in the USA and with his business partner, Peter Irvine, brought Gloria Jeans Coffee across the globe to Australia. With 18 different ways to serve coffee, I would say coffee is most definitely our specialty.

2. How important is a good barista to the taste of coffee? Juggling cups, beans and extracting that perfect espresso shot is all part of the challenge of meeting our Gloria Jeans Coffee barista standards.

Some call them legends, others call them saviours we all love the baristas responsible for making our morning coffee!

Check out what the Sylvia Park Baristas have to say about the art of Coffee!

Our dynamic in store baristas are expertly trained and can help you with the Gloria Jeans Coffee art of making the perfect cup of coffee.

3. Can you give me tips on the perfect cup of coffee? French Press (Plunger) brewing guide Grind: Coarse

1. Measure out the coffee for the size of press you are using: Press Size Amount of coffee3 cup (350ml) 2 rounded tbl spoons (20g)6 cup (800ml) 4 rounded tbl spoons (40g)8 cup (1 Litre) 5 rounded tbl spoons (50g)2. Fill press with water that is just off the boil, leaving space for the plunger.3. Stir the coffee to break up the surface crust and place the lid back on the press to keep the heat in.4. Allow to brew for 4 minutes to allow a full extraction of flavour.5. After 4 minutes, gently push the plunger down with the spout facing away from you. 6. Serve immediately.4. Describe Gloria Jeans Coffee in 5 words. At Gloria Jeans Coffee we strive to consistently serve the highest quality coffee and provide outstanding service.

Hollywood Bakery1. What would you say your specialty was; coffee or other? We opened in June 2006 when Sylvia Park first opened its doors and our mission has always been to pride ourselves in offering the freshest and most extensive selection of bakery and patisserie, however our coffee is always fresh and ready to go. Bakery, definitely is our specialty.

2. What is your favourite thing on the menu? It would have to be Eggs Benedict, served with bacon, or salmon, two eggs and a smooth hollandaise sauce…hmmm. Love it!

3. Describe Hollywood Bakery in 5 words. Freshest and largest selection of bakery, patisserie and espresso products at an affordable price (A bit more than 5 words but couldn’t help myself).

Page 61: Sylvia Park - ENVY

K5 Coffee Spot

1. Would you say coffee is your specialty? Coffee is definitely our specialty with our brand being Allpress. Allpress is all about flavour, from choosing high quality beans to choosing innovative roasting methods.

2. How important is a good barista to the taste of the perfect cup of coffee? The process is very person dependent. A barista can make a considerable difference to the final product. If they are not properly trained the coffee may taste burnt or over/under brewed. On the other hand if he is passionate about the coffee he can make a huge difference by brewing the perfect cup and creating latte art.

3. What is the most unusual cup of coffee you have been asked to make? This is not really unusual and to be honest Kiwis generally ask for a ‘flat white’ but Mochachino’s are becoming very popular. Mochachinos are for choco-holics, or people who need a not too indulgent chocolate fix. Mochas are much like cappuccinos.

4. Describe K5 in 5 words. Relaxed, open, inviting, affordable and fun

Starbucks1. Would you say coffee is your specialty? Absolutely. It always has been, and always will be about quality coffee.

Every beverage in store is handcrafted to provide our customers with their perfect beverage. Our Promise: At Starbucks, your beverage should be perfect, every time. If it’s not, let us know and we’ll make it right.

2. How important is a good barista to the taste of coffee? Barista’s are key to ensuring every beverage is made perfectly. Even the best beans and milk can be compromised if the barista doesn’t follow quality beverage build and standards.

3. Do you think the type of coffee people drink says a lot about them as a person? Very possibly.

4. Describe Starbucks in 5 words. Engaging, Fun, Genuine, Personal, Frappuccino.

The Coffee Club1. What would you say your specialty was; coffee or other?

Our specialty would have to be our menu – The Coffee Club’s unique difference is the great range of meals available, offering

a full menu all day every day. This includes everything from all-day breakfast, light meals, pizzas, gourmet sandwiches and wraps, fresh salads, open grills, kid’s club meals and of course a delicious selection of cakes and desserts.

2. What is your favourite thing on the menu? My favourite item would have to be The Coffee Club’s Big Breakfast – nothing beats a hearty breakfast!

3. How important is a good Barista to the taste of the perfect cup of coffee? A good barista is important; they contribute immensely to the success of a café. At The Coffee Club all baristas are put through an intensive training programme to ensure that customers receive excellent coffee!

4. Describe The Coffee Club Restaurant and Bar in 5 words. Good Food, Great Service, Excellent Coffee!

West Coast Coffee1. Would you say coffee is your specialty? Absolutely! We are focused on serving a great cup of coffee everytime, full of flavour and perfectly presented. It’s our passion and all our baristas are trained to understand how to make a consistently good cup of coffee.

2. How important is a good barista to the taste of coffee? We believe the Barista is the final step and the most important one in producing a great cup of coffee. The blending, roasting, and espresso machine all play a part but if it doesn’t come together under the careful hand of a trained Barista it can fall apart. Therefore the barista must be able to appreciate and deliver what makes a great coffee.

3. Do you think the type of coffee people drink says a lot about them as a person? In some ways yes. Most people drink coffee with milk of some sort, but increasingly we are seeing espresso drinkers delving into the complex flavours of the coffee itself.

4. Describe West Coast Coffee in 5 words. Passionate, full of flavour, tasty as!

Theobroma Chocolate Lounge 1. Would you say chocolate is your specialty? Theobroma is the “Total Food and Beverage Concept” offering a wide variety of chocolates, food, hot and cold chocolate beverages. The concept was conceived in response to the demand for high quality chocolates and chocolate beverages as an alternative to coffee.

2. How important is a good barista to the taste of the perfect cup of hot chocolate? Its extremely important to have a good barista on every shift. Whilst Theobroma has an exceptional coffee bean that is roasted in Melbourne only for Theobroma stores the barista plays a vital role ensuring that each coffee that is served is with love, creation and desire.

3. What type of chocolate do you use? Have you tried various types? Most of Theobroma chocolates are produced in Melbourne Victoria from pure Belgian chocolate with exotic flavours created by our master choclatiers. Each Theobroma signature chocolate is made by hand with no preservatives and nothing artificial.

4. Describe Theobroma Chocolate Lounge in 5 words. chocolate heaven delicate tasteful and passion

CASABLANCA 1. What is your favourite thing on the menu? Moroccan Lamb Tagine lamb shanks slowly roasted with caramelised onions, spices, and sultanas, served on couscous with yoghurt and fresh coriander.

2. What’s the vibe at Casablanca? The vibe is fun, colourful and casual, with an atmosphere that transports you to the Mediterranean…

3. What are traditional Casablanca recipes every home cook needs to know? This famous Casablanca soup is really easy to make, it’s based on the classic Turkish lentil soup from which many tasty variations are possible:

Anatolian Bride’s Soup delicious red lentil and mint soup drizzled with paprika oil and lemon juice, with Turkish bread – traditionally served on special occasions.

4. In your opinion what is a MUST have on the Christmas lunch menu? This is a great one for breakfast the next day – you

can use up the roast potatoes (or any other vegetables from the Christmas roast) – cut them into cubes and toss into a frying pan, when getting golden throw in a few eggs, stir round a bit and leave til set!

Izmir Eggs; Turkish style eggs scrambled with tasty sautéed potatoes and olive oil, served with hot Turkish bread.

GARRISON PUBLIC HOUSE1. What is your average day like at the restaurant? Long and busy! A standard day for me goes something like this: Come in at approx. 9am and ensure the deliveries have been signed off, then put away the stock. Catch up with Bridgette the Sales & Events Coordinator and run through any pre orders and functions for the next couple of days, and check that the kitchen is under control. From when we open at 11am our lunch covers can reach up to 300 meals! After the rush I do the ordering, and then make sure the night staff are prepped for dinner. Home time is about 9.30pm but not until I’ve had a cold beer!

2. If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life, which would it be? Roast chicken and gravy. It’s just always been a favourite of mine and brings happy memories of back home in England. (Even better with the crispy skin…!)

3. What are traditional Garrison recipes every home cook needs to know? Garrison’s garlic aioli…but it’s a secret recipe! Our aioli is the perfect addition to chips and a steak sandwich and also makes a great base sauce – just add BBQ sauce to make a BBQ aioli or parmesan and anchovies for Caesar dressing.

4. In your opinion what is a MUST have on the Christmas lunch menu? Traditional Christmas pudding with brandy butter. It’s just a classic.

5. What’s your favourite thing on the menu? Moroccan Rubbed 250g Lamb Rump with a chickpea salad. The meat is twice cooked overnight at 53 degrees for 8 hours which makes it extremely tender and full of flavour. I’ve always loved North African cuisine.

NANDOS1. Describe Nandos in 5 words. Best Flame Grilled Chicken, Anyday

2. If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life, which would it be? Flame grilled Nandos Chicken and Peri peri Chips dipped in Perinaise(Exclusive Nandos Dips)

3. What cuisine influenced the menu here at your restaurant South African and Portuguese

4. If you could host a dinner with any three celebrities, who would you most enjoy hosting at your restaurant? We would love to host George, Gary and Matt from Masterchef Australia!

CHEFYesAt Sylvia Park we have a fantastic variety of restaurants. Here’s an insight into who they are and what our Chef’s have to say.

UMI RESTAURANT1. Describe Umi Restaurant in 5 words. Fresh, vibrant, elegant, accommodating and relaxing

2. What is your average day like in the restaurant? We prepare all of our ingredients early in the morning so that we can open the doors by 11am. Lunch time customers start coming through from 11.30 and from then until we close; 10pm most nights, we keep recycling the ingredients to ensure all of our meals are fresh to the table.

3. What’s your favourite thing on the menu? Vegetarian lunch bento is my favourite with rice, tempura, tofu, salad, miso and a little dessert. It’s super tasty and doesn’t leave you feeling over full.

4. What are traditional Umi Restaurant recipes every home cook needs to know? An easy one to impress the guests is Teriyaki Chicken, cooked under 30 mins.

Combine water, soy sauce, brown sugar and mirin. Place chicken thighs in the marinade and set in the fridge for 1 hour.

To make the teriyaki sauce, add honey, soy sauce, mirin and sake to a small sauce pan and boil over medium heat until the sauce is glossy. It should take on a caramelized taste but be careful not to burn it.

When you’re ready to grill, put the chicken thighs skin side down onto the rack.

Grill until brown then flip so the skin faces up. Baste the skin with teriyaki sauce and continue to broil until the skin is golden. Give it a final baste and serve. Very tasty!
