    1. General technique of biosynthetic studies and basic metabolic pathways. An introduction tobiogenesis of secondary metabolites of pharmaceutical importance.

    2. Introduction, classification and study of different chromatographic methods and their applications inevaluation of herbal drugs.3. Standardization of Herbal drugs: Pharmacopoeial Standards, Type of extract, general flow of

    activities in standardization, WHO guidelines on standardization, Markers and their role in herba

    drug technology, recent approaches in herbal standardization.

    1. Alkaloids: Introduction, definition, occurrence, properties, classification, chemistry and generalmethods of determining structure, systematic pharmcognostic study of following crude drugs

    containing Alkaloids.

    1. Terpenoids and volatile Oils: Introduction, occurrence, general properties, classification, chemistryuses, methods of extraction, general biogenetic pathway, pharmacological activity of medicinally

    important monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes and triterpenoids.

    2. Chemistry and pharmacological activity of medicinally important monoterpenes (CitralLinalool, -Terpineol, Menthol, -Pinene and Camphor), Sesquiterpenoids (Farnesol, Zinziberene)

    Diterpenoids (Phytol), Triterpenoids (Squalene).

    1. Amino acids Peptides proteins: Classification, source, essential and non-essential amino acidsSynthesis, physical and chemical properties, configuration of amino acids, geometry of peptide

    linkage, peptide synthesis. Structure determination of polypeptides and group analysis. Basic idea

    regarding primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure of protein.

    2. Chemistry and therapeutic activity of penicillin, streptomycin and tetracyclines.3. Chemistry of Nucleic acid: Preliminary studies along with synthesis of purine and pyrimidine bases.
