ES

• Artificial intelligence application.

• Design to perform at a human expert level.

• Its answer by running the knowledge base through an inference engine.

• Most ES is suggestion system.

Different Between Human Expert & ES

Human expert ES

Time availability

workday anytime

Cost high affordable

Location Specific anywhere

Page 4: Syazwani - Alimah Chap 9

Different Between ES

& Others DSSES DSS

Allow expert to ‘teach’ computer about their field

Allowing for manipulation of data and models

Work from a much larger set of modeling rules

Contain equation – user make final decision base of the information

Component of ES

• Knowledge base –stores all the facts and rules about a particular problem domain.

• User interface- the code that controls the dialog between the user and the system

• Inference engine – draws conclusions from the knowledge base

Advantage ES Human expert can be expensive to train Many copy can made of an ES ES can contain knowledge from many

people Computer program do not get tired/bored They don’t have ‘ bad day’ Never "forgets" to ask a question, as a

human might

Page 8: Syazwani - Alimah Chap 9

Disadvantage ES It is not easy to gather the data and

rules for the computer They are inflexible and have no

‘common sense’ No body can be sure they are

programmed correctly , so they might make dangerous mistake

Cannot acquire and adapt to new knowledge without reprogramming

Use a lot effort and cost to make a good expert system
