APPRECIATE LIFE

Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Page 2: Swot

STRENGTHS

One of the main strength of the idea is that I personally have

detailed knowledge about the topic and I am passionate about

making the documentary on this idea.

I will be able to access key interviewee who are research experts.

I know the participant personally so I will have easy access to him

considering that he lives next door.

I know where I will be filming with regards to the location and I also

know the context of the documentary.

Page 3: Swot

WEAKNESSES The main participant of the documentary has Duchene Muscular

Dystrophy so the health issues can cause delays in filming.

I don’t have any back ups in case the participant gets very ill and is

unable to be in the documentary.

The topic is very sensitive so I cannot ask too personal questions even

though it’s a biographical documentary.

It is very hard to keep the idea original because it might end up similar

to documentaries about various disabilities.

It is very hard to keep the audience engaged and make it appealing to

the audience because not everyone in the target audience is interest in

conditions like Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

Page 4: Swot

OPPORTUNITIES

By making this documentary, I will find out more about the

condition and I will be able to educate people and make

them aware of the condition through my documentary.

I will be able to liaise with different charities who might

want to sponsor me for my documentary.

I will get to meet research and health professionals and

also it can attract my target audience are similar age to

them.

Page 5: Swot

THREATS The main threat is that I have heavy commitment from one

individual considering that he is ill and it can cause problems in the

production because I have no back up plans.

I might not be able to interview the professionals which can make it

less appealing to the target audience.

I will be restricted use certain locations where the participant can

access.

I might have to film e everything at his house which can make it look

very boring and it might not enough light which can be a big threat.

SHOULD TEACHERS BE ALLOWED TO HAVE A SOCIAL

LIFE

Fired for putting pictures on social network

Page 7: Swot

STRENGTHS

One of the main strength of the idea is that it is very original

because no documentaries have been made on this topic before.

Another strength is that I am not biased about the topic so I will

look at the point of view of both students and teacher so it will

appeal to a wider range of audience.

I have family friends who are teachers in other school so it be

easier for me access teacher from different schools.

It will be appealing to the audience because I will be able to use

voxpop .

Page 8: Swot

WEAKNESSES The topic of the documentary is very interesting. However, I am not

sure if schools or teachers would allow me to look into teachers

personal life and see what social life they have and how it may or may

not affect their professional life.

I do not have a structure or story line for the documentary, I only know

that it will have voxpop in it. Also, there is not ending to the story there

are no conclusions.

When I will interview teachers or students it will probably recorded in

school so the documentary will not have various location as it will all

be filmed in school buildings.

It is very hard to look

Page 9: Swot

OPPORTUNITIES

By making this documentary, I will be able to get in touch with

teacher’s unions such as NUTS and find more about the

conde of conduct for teacher which will increase my

knowledge.

I will be able to interview different teachers from different

schools and get an insight into what the life of s teacher is like.

It can create discussions between students so I will able to

ask them for their opinions about a teacher’s social life.

Page 10: Swot

THREATS The main threat of this idea is that I might not be able to access any

information from teachers because of their right to confidentiality so I

will have to highly rely on students opinions which might narrow my

target audience.

If I am able to access information, I might not be able to use it in my

documentary because the information might affects the teachers job.

I might not be able to film in different school which means the

documentary will not be very engaging as the mise en scene will be

the same through out the documentary.

HIDDEN HOMELESS

People who sleep on streets and do sofa surfing

Page 12: Swot

STRENGTHS

One of the main strength of the idea is that it is very original

because only two documentaries that exist on this topic before

and they are about a company helping an individual so my

documentary will be a good spin on the topic of homelessness as

because it will be about why people volunteer to be homeless and

decide to stay hidden.

Another strength of this idea is that I am not bias about

homelessness so I will also be contacting agencies about how

they feel about people coming to them and what advice they

would to give to them.

Page 13: Swot

WEAKNESSES The weakness of this documentary is that the subject area is

to wide because I want to look at people who are forced to

leave their home and people who volunteer to be homeless,

might not be able to fit all this in a 5 minute documentary.

Another weakness is that it will be hard to find homeless

people who will agree to speak in front of the camera and

some might want to speak up but due to language barriers

they might not be able to be in the documentary.

Page 14: Swot

OPPORTUNITIES

By making this documentary, I will be able to get in touch with

food banks and agencies that help homeless people and I will

be able to interview them to see where they get their funds

from.

It will also raise awareness and educate people about hidden

homeless so they might give funds to organisation.

Also, I will be able to contact big issue and they can help me

advertise my documentary because homelessness is a big

issue.

Page 15: Swot

THREATS One of the major threats of this documentary is access to participants

because though there a lot of homeless people still there are hard to find

the ones that I will be able to interview.

The documentary will be highly reliable of homeless people and they

might get emotional while explaining their story and disagree to

continue.

Another threat is safety of the person filming them because they might

so mental health issues or they might own weapons that can cause

harm.

It might be unethical to question someone why they chose to be

homeless because everyone has the right to privacy and homelessness

is a very private issue.

DESIGNER BABIES

Should society accept designer babies?

Page 17: Swot

STRENGTHS

The idea is very original, there are no documentaries on

designer because it is very recent when scientists told

public to be ready for designer babies.

I will be able to have both interviews and vox pops in my

documentary because I am very objective about the idea

so I will interview both people against and in favour of

designer babies/genetic modification.

Page 18: Swot

WEAKNESSES The subject is very broad because I do not the

aim/purpose of the documentary, at this point it is only to

ask for public opinions.

It will be hard to find an expert/researcher who I can

interview.

It might end up being longer then 5 mins without any

documentary conventions in so it sound more like a

discussion then a documentary.

Page 19: Swot

OPPORTUNITIES

I will be able to learn more about genetic modification and

why is it so important for the world of science to have

designer babies.

I might also be able to interview parents of children with

genetic diseases and ask them about their opinion if their

child could be cured with genetic modification.

I will be able to contact the science magazines and they

might be able to help me advertise the documentary.

Page 20: Swot

THREATS My documentary might have ethical issues as most people think

that genetic modification is morally wrong and we shouldn’t

change God’s creations.

Also, most people might have undecided opinions about

designer babies and there might not be conclusion to the topic.

It is very hard to find researcher who will agree to talk about

genetic modification because if the openly talk about it there life

might be threatened by very religious people who are extremely

against the idea of designer babies.
