SWOT evaluation –AS blog

A good thing about working with Bryony this year, is that for AS we were not in the same group. This means this time around, we can learn a lot from each other especially in terms of our blog and what it can contain. We have both done a SWOT evaluation so that we can pick the best parts of our previous blogs and use them again and learn from the mistakes each of us made last year so that this does not happen again.

A good feature on my blog last year, when I was in a group with Emily, Jess and Georgia, was that we did a time lapse of our editing process a feature that we found on iphones with the more up to date software. This was a creative and unique post to our group which we were proud of, and that was also interesting and visual for whoever was viewing our blog. It clearly showed the editing process and how parts of the film changed when we edited it.

This is something that we might want to do again this year when editing our music video, but to improve we should include some kind of explanation as without you are just watching a process but not really understanding what is happening. We could do this in the form of either a brief written or audio commentary explaining what part of the video we are editing. In general our posts on editing weren’t that good last year as we only had around two or three. This year we should aim to produce a more full editing diary which shows the journey of our music changes from initial editing ideas to the final cut.

Posts I was also really proud of last year were the detailed explanation videos of the costumes that our characters were wearing. These videos provided insight into why we chose the clothes that we did and what they represented; we used this to create stereotypes in the thrillers so that we could relate them back to conventions of a thriller film. In a video form as well, it was one of our better posts to make sure our blog was media rich. This is something I definitely think we should do again this year, especially as in a music video so many costume changes are required. To push ourselves further we could also go into more detail about makeup and hair- as this will be important when creating a star image for the main person in our video. We could also perhaps show the selection process from the start rather than just reasons for our final outfits.

Something that was not that good about our blogs last year were our evaluations. This is possibly due to time constraints and most of them were rushed and so this time round we should aim to manage our time more efficiently. The evaluations lacked variety and were not media rich, showing us how we need to take advantage of using videos, podcasts, prezis etc to include all the relevant detail that we need as multiple were just written on a plain blogger post.

In conclusion, our blog was good last year: we had some unique and interesting posts and we had a good number of them. But, to improve is that this time, content needs to be much more media rich and detailed.
