What is Sworn Translation?

There are no sworn translators in the UK but a solicitor should certify the translations. It is to guarantee that the translators are held accountable and can be identified.

Spain

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation should certify sworn translators in Spain and they are officially called Sworn Translators and Interpreters. Their stamp and signature is registered with the Ministry and included in the public list. If the translators want to be eligible, they have to complete a degree study of Translation and Interpretation in a Spanish university and pass a state exam.

Italy

The consulate and the court have the power to appoint official sworn translators. They choose from among the candidates who passed the proficiency exam and show proof of their translation skills.

Brazil

The Registry of Commerce accredits the Sworn Translators and Interpreters in Brazil. These translators are the only ones who can officially translate a legal document. Before they become Sworn Translators, they need to pass oral and written exams testing their proficiency for the foreign language. They will be issued a registration number, which they will place on the heading of every translated document.
