Theuseofswiveljointstocompensatefortwistinhose(i.e.Style20orStyle60)shouldbecarefullyreviewed,sincethehosemustbesufficientlystifftogeneratethetorqueneededtoactuatetheswivelbeforeitkinks.

Inmanyinstallations,thetwistiscausedbylateralmovementthatcanbeeliminatedbytheuseofaswiveljointthataddressesthelateralmovement(i.e.Style40orStyle30).

Wherethisisnotpossible,theuseofhoseswivelsmaybeasolution.Hoseswivelsaregenerallynon-ballbearingdesignsthatre-quirelesstorquetoinitiaterotation;however,hoseswivelsarenotdesignedforloadbearingservice.

Somehosesareunabletogenerateeventhelowtorquerequiredforahoseswivel,manymetalhosesfallintothisgroup.Otherhosesarestiffenoughtoturnalmostanyswivel,manyarmoredhosesfallintothisgroup.

Operation / Service

DixonswivelsarerecommendedforuseatthefollowingmaximumNon-ShockColdWorkingPressures(NSCWP)providedinPSI,atambienttemperatures(70°F).

• Whenusingflangedends,thepressureratingwillbereducedtocoincidewiththatoftheflangebeingused.Carbonsteelandstain-lesssteel150#flangesarerecommendedforuseat275maximumPSIatambienttemperature(70°F).

• Lubricationshouldbeperformedperiodically,dependingonserviceandoperationconditions.Twiceyearlyisnormallysufficient.

• Alldimensionsareapproximate.Wherecritical,consultthefactory.

V-Ring Swivel Seal Replacement Procedure

1Removetheballretainerscrews.Addasufficient amountofsolventintoeachracewaytoflushout thelubricant.Rotatethesleeve,catchingtheballsastheyfallout.Whenalltheballshavebeenremoved,thebodyandsleevecanbeseparated.Discardoldseals.Thoroughlycleanthebody,sleeveretainer,springretainerand springs. *

3Placetheassembledspringretainerunit(spring endfirst)intothebody.PlacethesetofVrings onto the spring retainer. Be sure V rings are installed withthesealinglipsfacingtowardtheretainer.LubricatethebodyandsealswithaMolylubricantorequivalent.

2LubricatethebodyunitwithaMolylubricant or equivalent.

4Set the dust seal into O ring groove on the sleeve. Place the seal retainer on the sleeve with the grooved endfacingtheVrings.Lubricatethesleevewithgrease.

5Insertsleeveintobody,compressingswiveljointtogetheruntilballracesofbodyandsleeveareinalignment(donotrotateeitherunitwhilecompress-ing).CareshouldbetakentoavoidpinchingorscoringofVrings.Dropballsintoracewayholes,rotatingthesleeveslowlyasyouload.Tomakespaceforalltheballs,insertascrewdriverintotheracewaywhilecontinuingtorotatethesleeveinonedirection(becarefulnottodamagethethreads).Thiswillcausetheballstojamup,makingroomfortheremainingballs.Nowreversetherotationofthesleeveandinserttheremainingballs.

6Reinstallballretainerscrewsuntiltight.Ifthisinterfereswiththesmoothrotationoftheballbear-ings,thenbackoff1/8-1/4turn.Athreadlockingsealantisrecommendedtopreventscrewsfrombackingoff.Afterpressuretesting,theunitisreadyforinstallation.

Caution:Bodyandsleevearematchedduringmanufacturing.Donot mix components with other units.
