Aloha Pools essentially began in 1966, though it was only named as such a

decade later, after founder Lindsay Fell passed the business on to his son

Greg. What was once an all-encompassing landscaping practice then

became focused exclusively on the design and construction of swimming pools –

Greg’s favourite feature of a garden.

Today, Greg works with his son Travis and an enormous team of talented builders,

constructing over 100 swimming pools a year across Victoria. Comprised of two, highly

skilled divisions handling all aspects of pool construction and maintenance, Aloha are

able to offer their clients the complete service from start to finish and beyond.

The team at Aloha are equipped to undertake projects of any scale, from courtyard

plunge pools to Olympic-sized commercial projects, roof-top spas to resort-style

lagoons. Their specialty is in high-end domestic undertakings and difficult

constructions in demanding locations.

Having built pools for more than three decades, the Aloha Pools team are experts in

The active lifestyle of this home’s occupants provided the initial stimulus

for this innovative, wet-edge pool design. As regular lap swimmers, they

wanted a pool that would facilitate this activity, but would not look like a

commercial installation.

With a design that takes its cues from the luxury, Tuscan-style villa overlooking Sorrento

beach, the pool has a contemporary appearance, yet does not look disengaged from the

residence. Rather, the home and pool appear as one solid whole, as if they had always

been together. To take full advantage of the beautiful view, the pool was built on the

edge of the cliff upon which the majestic home sits, with the gentle curve of the design

reflecting the natural curvature of the coastline beyond.

Wet-edges on four sides assist in the elimination of waves, which is a practical advantage

for the keen swimmers of the family. This design element also has enormous aesthetic

appeal, as the water is virtually level with the paving. In addition, the wet-edges give off

a sensation that the pool is a continuation of the sea, with soft green Italian glass tiles

giving the water a translucent, shimmering effect. Deep green tiles placed at regular

intervals on the pool floor define the two swimming lanes without spoiling visual appeal.

Abutting the expansive terrace area adjacent to the main pool is a generously sized spa. Its

formal appearance is accentuated by trimmed box hedging, but is made

casual by the majestic date palm above. Of an evening, the spa is a wonderful place to

relax, even during the cooler months, gazing out to the lights sparkling along the coast.

Strong, sharp lines and contrasting black ceramic tiles make this lap pool a perfect

visual complement to the Sutherland Creek home it is attached to. With ample

length for serious fitness training, the simple design and precise angles make it a

feature statement from any viewpoint.

The pool is constructed entirely above the natural ground level, elevated both to meet the

level of the residence and to achieve an extra dimension to the vistas of rolling hills.

Given the impressive countryside views available, it was important that the pool be

unencumbered by a raised edge. Instead, a detailed wet-edge design was utilised, which

has the added advantage of making the pool virtually wave-less. Bright white, large

format tiles surround the edges, cutting clean lines against the sprawling landscape and

contrasting brilliantly with the black ceramic mosaic tiles that sparkle invitingly

beneath the water.

A luxurious addition to the home it accompanies, this swimming pool sees good design

meet high quality workmanship to create its modern aesthetic.
