Taking up the monumental task of editing the annual college magazine “Swarnima” of Jabalpur Engineering College, Jabalpur is not a piece of cake, especially when you are a second yearite. But then we had been taught, “Nothing that is worthwhile is easy”. We were scared in the beginning and only time can tell whether we have lived up to your ex-pectations or not.As we started working, we were overwhelmed by the response we received. We really feel honored and take this opportunity to thank everyone who came forward to be a part of the team to submit an article, a sketch or may be just a photograph. We were living an edi-tor’s worst nightmare; however, we had our faith restored since creativity has never been a dying art. We went to people asking for their opinions about “Swarnima”. Whatever is put on is because that was the wish of the majority. We dedicate “Swarnima” to all these

There were people who tried to dissociate themselves from the magazine but we wel-comed the too.Gunter Grass once remarked, “A writer must live up to the test of reality, including politi-cal reality and that cannot be done if he keeps his distance.”An editorial Board too has to pass through this test and our young and fresh team has

tried to be almost everywhere, watch everything for we guard this heaven of ours – Jabal-pur Engineering College. We reported only to a thing called conscience. And after that, how you treat this magazine, solely lies in your hands. How could we praise our team members who have always stood beside the strong deci-sions we had to make. They deserve much more than that. Everyone, it was an honor working with you.

We were once asked, “What makes you think, you can change everything? What are you

You know the “Swarnima” editors are not exactly Gods!!But today we think those people found there answers. After all in this mortal world, eve-rything perishes and will perish but ideals, ideas and dreams do not!!

individuals are not important. What matters is visible results. And any visible result in the public space needs the support of hundreds of actors (the ‘community’)”. That’s the true spirit of community service. After all when we go abroad we do keep ourselves in check there, then why can’t we do the same in our country? This is our home after all, it should be clean, without anyone telling us or any law requiring us to do that. And yes the things won’t change overnight but in years maybe decades with our continuous efforts we can see the change,

GIRL’S DESTINY

All these years passed so quickI don’t rememberWhen did I become so bigYesterday only I played in the lanesSo many gamesSlept for long and nowThat time is goneNow I have to leave my houseJust because I met my spouseTo add a person into my lifeAs I am going to be a wifeHow do I forget who all I lovedAnd allow my memories to be rubbedFor I know I will have sleepless nightsAs my mother won’t be there to sing me a lala-byeMy father won’t be there to support meAnd my siblings won’t be there to help me

And who will teach me the rightBut this is a girl’s destinyTo tolerate the worlds scrutiny

To give a new plant of the same species

But I have to be happyAs my parents are

For their sakeI will bid them a good byeWith a smile on my lips andTears in my eyes.

GIVE BLOOD GIVE

LIFE Had you been thinking of JEC just being an institute of academics and at times an assembly of some technologi-cal events only, then lets acknowledge ourselves with something more ethi-cal done by our college each year, and that being the privilege hosts of “The Blood Donation Camp”.

The respective camp is held by the coordination of the department of Industrial and Production in collaboration with the Victoria hospital, Jabalpur as well as the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical Hospital. The camp has always been a vibrant exam-ple under supervision of Dr. Prakash Verma, head of the Industrial and Pro-duction Department.

Students from all over Jabalpur, car-rying identity of 18+ are allowed to participate and donate blood to the blood banks. The enthusiasm and com-mitment with which they have been participating these years has been very

inbuilt in today’s generation is none less than the fact for which our culture has always been considered.

The event is well synchronized be-tween the students of the department which sets a perfect example of work-ing as a team. Each individual handles the responsibility given to him or her with utmost dedication.

the broadness of the event.196 units of blood collection is a great achievement in itself. We always wish the number of donors increase as multiples, after all even a single drop may save a life.
