    Recently, we had a technology safetypresentation at Swanton Elementary Schoolby Technicool. As we encourage ourstudents to use technology safely, we wantedto pass along a few reminders to families tohelp keep our students safe!

    Facebooks safety and privacypolicy prohibits children under 13from having a Facebook accountand profile. If you know of a childwho is not 13 who is usingFacebook, you are encouraged toreport this student and they will beblocked from having a profile:http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=underage

    Know where your children areonline! Try Googling your child tosee what information about them is

    already online.

    Keep computer and cell phones in asafe space, such as a common room.Children who have computers, cell

    Talk to your children about the useof technology. Explain to yourchild that once they have putsomething out on the internet(pictures, text, posts, videos), thereis no way to take it back. Eveninformation that is deleted can beretrieved by someone who is techsavvy!

    Create technology-use rules.Discuss with your child what isallowed and what is not allowed.Rules should include how often andfor how long they may usetechnology.

    As many of you know, I will be leavingSwanton Elementary School at the end ofthe school year, as I have accepted apermanent Principal position atChamberlin Elementary, in SouthBurlington. Not only is this a careeradvancement for me, but it will allow meto be closer to my home, and family, inWilliston. I feel so fortunate to have beenwelcomed into the Swanton community. Ihave had a wonderful year, learning andgrowing with your children. This schoolis a special place, filled with an amazinggroup of educators and staff that are trulydedicated to education. Working

    with the FNWSU staff, the PTO and theschool board has been a rewarding,collaborative experience. I wouldespecially like to thank Mr. Coon for hisguidance and support this year. He is anoutstanding principal and we are fortunateto have him as our leader. He is currentlyleading a search for a new AssistantPrincipal. I am honored to have served asyour Interim Assistant Principal, AssistantPrincipal and Queen Bee this schoolyear. I will miss my Swanton family nextyear, and wish you all the best.
