Day 3: The Sarova Stanley, Nairobi (Wed, 18 September)

Day Itinerary

This morning after a hearty leisurely breakfast, a guide driver will pick you from the hotel for Nairobi Excursions.

Drive to Daphne Sheldricks orphanage. It is set in the Nairobi National Park. The orphanage give you a rare

opportunity to come close to baby elephant, the age vary from a few months to 3 years, each orphaned elephant is

assigned its own keeper, who acts as a replacement mother and will stay with the elephant until it is re-introduced

into the wild. The keeper as well gives a talk about the elephants, where they came from, how they are getting on,

and how some of the previous orphans are progressing.

You will then drive to the Karen Blixen Museum with lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden . This museum was the

home of the Danish renowned writer – Karen Blixen, also known by her pen name as Isak Dinesen. The house was

her residence between 1914 to 1931. Most of the household items that Karen used are still intact in the house.

Surrounding the house is some nicely, natured coffee garden that lady Karen grew. In the house we have a small

library, offering some of Karen’s writings among other collections. We end our tour a visit to the Giraffe centre for a

thrilling experience with tallest mammals on earth. Here we have the Rothschild giraffe, one of the three sub-species

that we have in Kenya. Here we will be able to feed them with our hand, take some amazing photo shots beside

them and maybe if we will, a kiss! This is a life-time experience and perhaps the closest one can get to these gracious

creatures in their natural setting.

This will be followed by a visit to Kazuri Beads and Pottery Centre. This is a popular place for many guests who have

just a few hours to spend seeing the sights of Nairobi. Kazuri beads produce brightly-coloured, hand-made ceramic

jewellery which are sold all over the world.

Tonights dinner is a special event with our host, The Manji Family who will entertain you over drinks and dinner at

their family home.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Founded in 1977 by Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E, in honor of the memory of her late husband, famous

naturalist and founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE, the DSWT claims a

rich and deeply rooted family history in wildlife and conservation. Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and it's

wilderness, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is today the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation

program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East

Africa.

To date the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has successfully hand-raised over 150 infant elephants and has

accomplished it's long-term conservation priority by effectively reintegrating orphans back into the wild herds of

Tsavo, claiming many healthy wild-born calves from former-orphaned elephants raised in care.

Karen Blixen Museum

The Karen Blixen Museum was once the home of the Danish author Karen Blixen. The renowned author made

famous by the release of the Oscar winning movie ‘Out of Africa’, based on Karen’s autobiography of the same title.

The museum displays many pieces of the author's furniture and has a splendid view of the Ngong Hills, immortalized

in Karen Blixen's opening line, "I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills."

The Karen Blixen Museum is open to the public every day, with guided tours on offer. The museum shop features

handicrafts, posters, postcards, the movie ‘Out of Africa’, as well as books and other Kenyan souvenirs.

Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages

The Historic Swedo House at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, Ltd. was the original hunting lodge/farm

house which was built around 1906 to 1908. It is located approximately a half mile from the Karen Blixen (Bogani

House) museum, and is 15 minutes from downtown Nairobi.

It is the site of the original farmhouse of the property, which now is near the Karen Blixen Museum (of “Out of

Africa”) and about half a mile from the Karen Golf and Country Club where guest can enjoy golfing, tennis, squash as

well as other activities. The Coffee Garden sits only 5 ½ acres of land with large hundred year old trees and a

beautiful garden with hundreds of different varieties of blooming flowers, and a large population of birds.

The cottages are located in the midst of one of the oldest formal gardens in Kenya which have huge jacaranda,

candelabra, cactus, bottlebrush, and other trees. Over 200 types of flowers bloom through the year and numerous

bird feeders attract hundreds of varieties of birds. The cottages have been designed after the historic Swedo House

to give a sense of reliving history in elegant style. All well appointed cottages have hi-beam ceilings with fireplaces,

wood and mazeras stone floors. Mini bars, satellite TVs and internet connections have also been installed. Each

bedroom has a large bathroom with its own shower and bath. Internet connections and phones are available in all

rooms. Three cottages have two private suites with a separate dressing room.

All cottages have a verandah for relaxing while enjoying the birds, butterflies and flowers of the garden. We provide

feeders to attract a wide variety of birds.

Residents can also enjoy twenty-four-hour room service. A private swimming pool and private garden bar are

available for a relaxing afternoon or for small group get togethers. Private outdoor dinner parties by the pool can

also be arranged.

Giraffe Centre

The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya (A.F.E.W. Kenya) also known as the Giraffe Centre is a non-

governmental, non-profit making organization, which was founded by Betty and Jock Leslie-Melville in 1979. This

was in a bid to save the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, which had lost its natural habitat in Western Kenya to

agriculture and there were only 130 left in the wild. Funds were raised and 4 herds of the Rothschild giraffes were

moved to 4 parks namely Lake Nakuru National Park, Mwea Game Reserve, Ruma National Park and Nasalot Game

Reserve.

The Rift Valley is a colossal geological feature stretching for 6000 kilometres. It runs from the Middle East all the way

down Africa to northern Botswana into Kenya and can be visited just a short drive north of Nairobi. The ground

drops away and opens up to a massive valley which is home to lakes, soda lakes, savannah and impressive volcanic

formations. This spectacularly scenic landscape is scattered with abundant plains game, a string of reserves and

Maasai villages. Visitors can soak up these stunning panoramas against beautiful backdrops. Some highlights include:

the dramatic cliffs of Hell's Gate, Mount Longonot, Lake Elmenteita, and the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park.

Overnight: Mbweha Camp View iBrochure

Tucked away in the spectacular Great Rift Valley on the private 6400 acre Congreve Conservancy, Mbweha Camp is

Day Itinerary

A hearty early morning breakfast then drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve, offering wonderful scenery and

plenty of game. Arrive to a very warm welcome for lunch, some leisure.

This afternoon is the moment we have been longing for – we depart on an exciting game viewing drive. The Rolling

plains and grasslands, stretching far into the horizons as far as the eye can see is home to the black-manned lion, the

savannah elephant, the Cape buffalo, wildebeests, the elusive leopard, cheetah, the spotted & stripped hyena, the

rhino, topi, burchelle’s zebra, the Masai giraffe among many others. The Mara game reserve is one that can never

disappoint. One is spoilt by the variety of bird and wildlife species in this game reserve….. For a long time, Mara

Game Reserve has stubbed her authority as the ‘granary’ of wildlife in Kenya.

We return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara

National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomises Africa for many, then add a

Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of

the Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the

Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with

more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and eland can also

be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the

Mara plains has become almost essential.

Overnight: Tipilikwani Mara Camp View iBrochure

This uniquely situated luxury camp on the banks of the Talek River overlooks the mottled plains of the Maasai Mara,

where vast herds of wildlife co-exist with the colourful Maasai people between June and October the Maasai Mara

plays host to one of the most spectacular wildlife shows on earth the great annual migration of over a million

wildebeest and zebra as they enter the Mara ecosystem from Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania. Tipilikwani's tents

enjoy river frontage and are decorated with warm, rich Maasai colours.

The family tents have a stand alone bath tub in addition to showers. Excellent food, personalised service and

traditional Kenyan hospitality further compliment the prime location.

Game drives offer the unforgettable opportunity to enjoy the diversity of animals and birds living permanently in the

Maasai Mara, as well as many migratory species. Guests can also learn more about the Maasai people, proud

pastoralists and warriors, many of whom still retain their traditional nomadic lifestyle.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Lodge, Ngorongoro Region

(Tue, 24 September)

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, we depart to Ngorongoro. We stop at the Oldupai Gorge, one of the most important prehistoric sites

in the world to learn on human evolution. We will enjoy an on-site talk on the interpretation of the gorge by the

resident guide. We arrive at our crater rim lodge to a warm welcome, check-in then lunch.

This afternoon we relax and from our lodge enjoy the breath-taking spectacular views of the crater below.

Ngorongoro Crater has the largest unbroken caldera in the world. It has been described as one of the great natural

wonders of the world. Eight million years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater was an active volcano but its cone collapsed,

forming the crater that is 610 meters deep, 20 kilometres in diameter, and covers an area of 311 sq. km. Spectacular

as it is, the crater accounts for just a tenth of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater is home to many species

of wild game and birds. With the exception of impala and topi (due to fierce competition with the wildebeest) and

the giraffe (because there is not much to eat at tree level), almost every species of African plains mammal lives in the

crater, including the endangered black rhino, and the densest population of predators in Africa. The birdlife, which

includes the flamingo, is mainly seasonal, and is also affected by the ratio of soda to fresh water in Lake Magadi on

the crater floor.

NOTE: Warm jacket/cardigan is highly recommended.

Bordering Kenya to the north, the Ngorongoro Region is known for its abundance of beautiful natural features. It

encompasses the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the spectacular Ngorongoro

Crater, and the active Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. Visitors can look forward to a variety of activities such as viewing

the epic Serengeti wildebeest migration, visiting a local Maasai village, soaking up the remarkably diverse scenery

and catching a glimpse of the magnificent bird and wildlife including over 500 bird species, all of the Big Five, as well

as crocodile, hippo, zebra, antelope, lion, leopard, and cheetah. Don’t miss the opportunity to join a walking safari,

enjoy thrilling mountain biking adventures and scenic trekking.

and fauna and some of the most soul-searing views in Africa.

Enjoy dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Located in the southern reaches of Kenya, the Amboseli National Park is renowned for its excellent variety of wildlife

such as Masaai giraffe, elephant, lion and cheetah and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya's most popular parks. The

landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the majestic snow cap of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as open plains, acacia

woodland, swamps and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. The birding is excellent, especially closer to the lakes and

swamps. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to large herds of elephants among other

wildlife species. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Maasai people and soak up

spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
