Our Safety Values 1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE – CHALLENGE, REPORT AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY Health and safety starts with the individual. All Swagelining employees are encouraged to be safety leaders and take personal responsibility for safety at all times. Every individual, regardless of job title, has a responsibility to maintain a safe and healthy workplace, challenging and reporting unsafe actions and conditions where they arise. 2 EMPOWERMENT – ANYONE CAN STOP THE JOB Any individual is empowered to highlight any safety issue. Empowerment at Swagelining is defined as “freedom and authority” up to and including stopping a job if it is felt that safety is compromised. 3. RISKS – RECOGNISE AND MITIGATE Everyone has a right to be protected from harm caused by a failure to take reasonable control measures. Swagelining assesses every task and operation to determine elements that could cause harm and ensures appropriate safeguards are implemented to control the risks identified. 4. PROCEDURES – UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW Swagelining has developed core procedures, processes and work instructions which are documented within our management system. This allows safe, consistent and efficient project delivery by promoting, understanding and following these guiding documents. 5. MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE – RECOGNISE, AUTHORISE AND IMPLEMENT Swagelining recognises that change can be necessary for any number of reasons. Where a change affects a documented process, this is recognised and appropriate authorisation is sought to ensure that the change is validated, communicated and implemented. 6. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY – BE TRAINED AND COMPETENT Swagelining will ensure that anyone undertaking any task will be trained to the necessary standard, enabling them to have the knowledge, skill and experience to carry out that task successfully. 7. PPE – FIT FOR PURPOSE AND APPROPRIATE TO THE TASK Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provides the last line of defence against physical hazards in the workplace. Swagelining will always issue PPE that is fit for purpose and appropriate to the task and will ensure that all personnel comply with these requirements. 8. DRIVING – PLAN AHEAD AND OBEY THE LAW Swagelining believes that driving behaviour is a key factor in road safety, therefore: • Plan your journey and build in rest time • Comply with local driving laws • Make sure your vehicle is fit for purpose • Ensure seat belts are worn by all occupants • Never use a hand-held mobile phone or a similar device while you’re driving • Avoid alcohol and drugs 9. LOADS, LIMITS AND HANDLING – ASSESS, UNDERSTAND AND PLAN Prior to conducting any task or operation involving loads, heights, capacities or movements, Swagelining will ensure there is a full appreciation of the practical working limits involved. All such limits will be subject to thorough assessment and review, with the appropriate procedures, equipment and safety factors utilised to mitigate these risks. 11. LIVE LIFE SAFELY – WORK, HOME, EVERYWHERE Swagelining believes that our values apply to all aspects of everyday life. We are encouraged to embrace these values not just in the workplace, but at home and in everything we do. 10. EQUIPMENT – SAFE, FIT FOR PURPOSE AND RELIABLE Swagelining’s expectations are that all company equipment in practical use is reliable, fit for purpose and meets the highest of safety standards.
