Fay was born on March24th, 1928 in the smalltown of Enterprise, West

Virginia. She had sevenbrothers and is the oldestof six girls, all born within20 years of each other. She

went to a one room school house, and herbrothers and sisters made up most of the class.

Mom was a housewife and father was a coalminer. They also did farming along withraising all those children. They were poor butdidnt know it. They always had a vegetablegarden and nice neighbors that gave themmeat they had butchered but did not need.

They ate a lot of beans, fried potatoes, eggs, biscuits and gravy and apple butter thatthey made themselves. Some of her favoritememories are of picking berries, holidays, andfishing with her brothers.

When Fay was 10 she and three of her siblingswere sent to California to live with a richAunt, because her father could not supportthe entire family at the time. These times

slaves. She was never allowed to play withother children and had to go straight homeafter school to do chores. She had to scrub thefloors, laundry, ironing and help take care ofthe Aunts rental property.

They lived in Hollywood and she went toHollywood High School. She graduated fromhigh school on June 20, 1946 and was married

the very same day at the First MethodistChurch in Hollywood Calif. Thats one way toget away from a mean Aunt.

She met her future husband, Ernie C. Larawhen she was 17 years old. He was in thenavy. One day when she was baby-sitting, hergirlfriend called and said that she had twosailors that wanted to go out with them tothe ice cream parlor. After they came back

from the ice cream parlor, Ernest realizedthat he did not have his sailor hat. The othersailor hid the hat and said that he would notreturn it until he kissed Fay. He was playingmatchmaker and it worked!

Eight months after they met they weremarried and the day after that, they spenttheir honeymoon in Tucson, Arizona. Ernest

Employee SpotlightWhere are you from? I wasborn in Detroit, Michigan, reared in Indiana and movedto Arizona after living in NewMexico for 30 years.

What do you do in your pastime? I tend to be ahome body. I love to read and watch old movies.I am an avid golfer playing since I was 12 yearsold. I have played golf all over the world.

What is your favorite life lesson? While Iowned my own business I was asked to sellan item to the next person that entered myestablishment. I went next door and asked alady that was dressed poorly to help me out(really to get rid of the salesman). My initial

impression was that she could not afford themerchandise. She returned to my office triedon the merchandise and left me with severalnice compliments about the item. Twentyminutes later, she returned with a certifiedcheck and asked if she could place an order forthe item. It was one of the largest sales I ever
