Overview

Overview

ALL SUPPORT IS DONE THROUGH THE SUPPORT SITE

Support Site: http://www.randemsystems.com/support/

SVC supports multi-language in the installation of SVC as well as in the operations. You canchange the language in which you want to view SVC from the Languages menu on the main screen. Wewill describe the proper operating environment for SVC to work in. There are a few things that shouldbe in place for proper operations and they are as follows:

1. SVC will work with client/server databases in regular or authentication modes. Regularmode is that your ODBC driver is connected to the database and has the user name and password tolog on. Authentication mode is where the database will require each user to put in their user name andpassword to log onto the database.

Authentication is set on the database server (SQL Server 2005, Oracle, MySQL).

2. To cause SVC to have the user put in his user name and password for a client/serverdatabase that supports authentication, leave the UserName and Password items in the ini file blank. Ex.UserName=

3. All users need to have a unique Windows logon ID. The database logon ID can be thesame, but using the Windows logon ID is how SVC does file tracking. If done this way only the userwho checked a file out from a particular directory in a project will be able to check it back in, all otherswill be denied. If any users have the same Windows ID, they will be allowed to overwrite each other' sfiles, being that SVC will see them as the same user.

4. No drive information is kept in SVC. This means that when you check files in or out, noinformation about what drive the files came from or is exported to, will be retained. The only referenceto this information is in the logs.

5. File check ins will ALWAYS be in relative mode. This means that the folder locationswill be relative to a folder titled with the name of the project being checked in. File check-outs will bedone in the same manner. The files will be checked out underneath a folder by the name of the titledproject. meaning that if you have a project by the name of Test ; any file or folder checked out will becreated under a folder named Test in the destination location you have chosen.

SVC is best viewed in Video modes of 1024 x 768 or greater resolution.

Put yourself on our SVC's e-mail list to be notified of future releases. Visit our support site athttp://www.randemsystems.com/support/, your feedback, thoughts, comments and suggestions arewelcome. You can also report problems and find solutions to your problems should you have any.

Creating the SVC database

Creating the SVC Database

Included in the installation is the default database for SVC in Microsoft Access Database. This is thedatabase that will be automatically configured for use. If you would like to use any other database; itmust be installed and configured before SVC can use it. When SVC is installed, SQL scripts will becopied into the location where SVC was installed in a folder named SQL. The scripts are for Oracle,mySQL, SQLServer 2005. You can also modify these script to allow SVC to run on other databasesengines also.

The scripts can be run as they are to create the database and tables for SVC. In some databases, thedatabase has to be created first then you can run the script to create the tables. The default tables haveno data in them, all data will be created thru SVC.

Quick Start

Quick Start

Basic Installation Procedure

Only 32bit drivers have been tested to work with SVC for any database and must be previouslyinstalled for SVC to connect to the database. All drivers for supported database can be downloadedfrom our website.

1. Login as user with Administrator privileges

2. Install SVC.

3. Restart if needed.

4. Login as same user with Administrator privileges.

5. Run SVC.

6. Setup new users and user privileges (In the Security menu you must check mark active for theusers).

7. Logout of Windows. (Optional)

8. Login as an SVC user. (Optional)

9. Run SVC. (Optional)

If you are installing on a system that has Visual Basic 5.0 on it do not continue with the installation orVB system files will be overwritten with Visual Basic 6.0 system files and your Visual Basic 5.0programs may not work. Your original system files will be backed up anyway in the common Filesdirectory in a backup directory (Ex. c:\Program Files\Common Files\SVC VB Backup) and these filescan be copied back to the Windows system directory if there is any problem (Ex. C:\Windows\System32).

Oracle 11g Operational Information

Oracle Operational Information

Operating SVC with Oracle 11g Express

The SVC Database can be created and managed with Oracles SQL Developer. After creatingthe SVC database you should use the supplied SQL table creation script to create the tables for SVC.Do not use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle Driver, it lacks BLOB support and will notwork properly with SVC. The database size can get rather large if you are importing large files so thedefault database size may not be enough. You may want to set the database files to auto extend if youdo not want to manually manage the size.

The drivers for Oracle ODAC can be downloaded from our website. To install these driversplease follow the directions in the readme.htm file in the folder where you will extract the files from thezip file. The short version is you have to copy this folder to the root folder where Oracle 11g wasinstalled (Ex. C:\Oracle) then run the install.bat file in that folder location with the command line install.bat all c:\oracle odac (this will install all the drivers), if you just want to install just the OLEDBdrivers use the command line install.bat oledb c:\oracle odac. More details can be obtained from thereadme.htm file. This package has no ODBC driver for Oracle databases. All drivers in the package arelisted below. You can choose to install one or all of these drivers.

Locking Out Projects

Locking Out Projects

Projects can be locked out from users or can be open to all users. Upon creation of a project, only users withadministrative priviledges can see the project. The administrator will need to give access to any user in the SVCsystem that will need to use it. When you set a user to gain access to the project you will also need to set thesecurity on the project to what the user is allowed to do.

Security

Security

On the security menu selection you can allow or disallow users functions contained in SVC.You can even eliminate the menu option that the user sees so that they won' t even try to do a function. This way the user will have no idea that the function even exists. The functions are somewhat self-explanatory, but remember to set the user as active or they will not have access to the system eventhough they are in the database.

There is a relationship between the fields on the security screen and the menu on the mainscreen, it is very easy to see which menu selections can be disabled and which function under the menuselections that can also be disabled. Care should be used here for one can unexpectedly lock a userfrom a menu selection even though you allow them access inside the menu. Of course the top menuselection takes precedence.
