1903 Olmsted Brothers suggest land be used for a city park rather than industrial site

1906 City Gas Light plant opens.

1911–1917 construction of Lake Washington Ship Canal including Montlake Cut and Fremont Cut

1936 concrete “prow” built on site for unloading coal.

1956 Plant closed when Seattle converted to natural gas fuel.

1962 City of Seattle began purchasing the abandoned gas works.

1970 Richard Haag Associates designed a restoration plan for a park space on the plant site.

1975 Gasworks park opened to the public.
