CEMENT RETARDERSBorregaard’s BioDrill RC product family includes a wide range of specialty cement retarders and dispersants. The variation in well conditions dictates the need for specialised retarders to fulfill the requirements of proper zonal isolation. Our BioDrill RC additives are used to retard cement, extend pump times, and allow the cement to set at the desired location in the production string; over a broad spectrum of cements and drilling temperatures. Encompassed in Borregaard’s BioDrill RC product family are six dual functional retarders/dispersants. Using our in-depth understanding of oilwell cementing and unique competence in lignin, Borregaard has developed these highly modified products to address the challenges related to various cement types. These products are developed to provide consistent retarding and dispersing properties, when utilising high early compressive strength oilfield cements. Several BioDrill retarders have demonstrated the ability to ameliorate the erratic dosage response of high early compressive strength cements.

FLUID LOSS CONTROL ADDITIVESWater-based mud systems naturally form a clay-based filter cake at the interface between the formation rock strata and the drilling fluid. Our BioDrill FM fluid loss control agents decrease the permeability of the filter cake, preventing migration of drilling mud into sensitive formation-producing zones. The treaded filter cake also prevents migration of formation fluids into the drilling fluid. Borregaard’s BioDrill FM products offer excellent performance at temperatures up to 200 °C (400 oF), in particular calcium and chloride contaminated systems (e.g. in gypsum/dolomite or salt formations, or sea water).

DRILLING MUD THINNERSBorregaard’s chrome-free BioDrill TM thinners are utilised to de-floc-culate water-based bentonite clay systems, which in turn reduces low shear rate viscosity and gel strength. They also contribute to reducing fluid loss. The products have proven efficiency in various systems; including fresh water, brackish water and seawater, at bot-tom hole temperatures up to 100 oC (212 oF).

H2S SCAVENGERSThe BioDrill GreenScav technology combines metal salts with lignin- based chelating agents to provide completely soluble H2S scavengers for use in most brine and fresh water drilling fluid systems. The high solubility of GreenScav scavengers improves reaction rate and the metal’s availability, resulting in high H2S scavenging efficiency, as well as aiding dispersion of solids and providing some degree of protection against corrosion. Furthermore, rheological problems arising from the use of insoluble metal salt scavengers are avoided.
