Sustainable Energy SolutionsEnergyVaasa Innovation Center (INKA) leads
the national energy technology development
in Finland during the years 2014 – 2020
INKA – Sustainable Energy Solutions2
EnergyVaasa INKA is the leading energy technology center in Europe in 2030The Finnish energy technology innovation center is based on the export industry driven
by the EnergyVaasa ecosystem. The Vaasa city driven innovation center leads all key
energy industrial shareholders (industries, universities and public sector) in Finland.
• The industries will double their export value from 2010 to 2020;• The industrial networks, knowledge and competitiveness will be developed;• The industrial leaders should be able to keep their market position (ABB, Andritz,
Foster Wheeler, Metso Energy, Switch, Vacon Wärtsilä,...);• The service companies are supported for future internationalisation (Citec, Etteplan,
Wapice, Granlund, VEO...); • The networks are developed with the best energy cities in Finland with clear profiles;
the collaboration between the universities is facilitated, the investments of public sector will be used as innovation references and the new business models are developed to support the growth and internationalisation of SMEs.

Main themes of the innovation center
INKA – Sustainable Energy Solutions4
• Offshore wind will grow globally by 29% annually• Renewable energy production will require adjustable gas power plants• The cleantech business in ferries, power plants and mining sector will increase• Gas will be used more in transportation and power generation• A number of LNG –harbors and ferries will be built in the near future• Sulfur directive will create new business opportunities for environmental investments
Smart Power Generation
5.9.2013 Timo Kankaanpää, Merinova Ltd
KEY BUSINESS AREAS
The Wärtsilä 50DF medium-speed engine can be run either on natural gas or on light fuel oil (LFO) or on heavy fuel oil (HFO). The engine can smoothly switch between fuels during engine operation and is designed to give the same output regardless of the fuel.

KEY BUSINESS AREAS
Energy Efficiency
• Frequency converters will save 50% of energy consumption in optimal applications
• Vacon plans to save 1 % of the global electricity utilities.• ABB energy efficient motors will save four
times more greenhouse gas emissions than what the whole of Finland causes
