Beat Procrastinatio
n
• It can be your single greatest enemy in college.• It takes self-discipline and self-control to start
things when you need to.1. Say to yourself “A mature person is capoable
and responsible and is a self-starter. I’m that person, especially if I start now!”
2. On a notecard, write a list of everything you need to do for the day or the week. i. Check off things as you complete them.ii. Use the list to focus on the things that need to
be completed.iii. If you don’t complete them that day, move them
to the top of your list for the next day. iv. Working from a list will help you feel
accomplished and lead you to more free time.
Beat Procrastination
3. Break big task or jobs into smaller ones. i. Tack on the short, easy tasks first.
4. Promise yourself a suitable reward for something that was challenging.
5. Take control of your study environment. i. Say no to friends who want to hang out at
their convenience. Schedule time for them.ii. Don’t make phone calls unrelated to your
studies during your study sessions. iii. Close your door.
Words of Advice.
• Get a planner and use it always! • Make study guides for yourself and review
them before the exam.• Don’t be nervous or embarrassed to ask for
help. Use your resources (upperclassmen) early on before it’s too late to fix a grade.
• Study as if you’re taking the test.– Don’t study in bed.– Don’t eat while studying.– Don’t smoke while studying. – Study at a table in minimal silence (like a
classroom) and if you chew gum or drink something, then chew that same gum or drink that same beverage while you take the test.
Words of Advice
Continued.
• Use a Google calendar to stay organized.– Even block off time for studying, working out,
and etc.• Wonderlist is a great app to use for
organization, too.• Take breaks when studying.
– Make time for yourself or risk becoming burned out.
• Prioritize and allocate practical time for things.
