what we think offutures and smart tech

Page 2: Survey into Smartups

We asked you

1. What are the five most promising startups in the field of cutting consumer and resource use right now?

2. Organize following smartup categories from most promising to least promising- Collaborative consumption (Making better use of current resources e.g. ridesharing)- New distribution systems for ecological food, transportation and housing (Providing quicker market deployment for more ecological technologies, e.g. a web-shop for solar cells)- Radically more ecological consumer products in the fields of food, housing and transportation (EV-cars, plant based food, etc.) - Behavior change through information feedback (gamification, pricing, metering and so forth) - Services in the urban context (smart city applications, urban agriculture, online-o!ine-hybrid shops)

3. What are the key drivers of smartups for the next two years?

4. Considering smartups, what are the key technologies in the next five years?

5. What industries or markets are smartups likely to disrupt next?

6. What is the biggest barrier to deployment of energy smart technologies and applications

Categories that are most interesting

We agree that collaborative consumption is something very interesting

Categories that are most interesting

As for distributional systems our views di"er the most.

Page 6: Survey into Smartups

WHich categories are we missing?- Ventures to provide an ecosystem, as e.g. finance.

- Identify the fastest growing consumer facing startups. Big funding rounds are a good indicator ;-)

- Tools for driving user adoption (could be covered by behavioral change category)

- Resiliency technologies (e.g., disaster preparedness/recovery, mesh/peer-to-peer networks)

- Green building Energy storage, Alternative fuel and energy sources

- Data/logistics - One of the most important things about Uber is how it can get enough data to make a marketplace where supply and demand are at an equilibrium.

biggest Barriers

- Regulation and incumbent power are bundled.- Applying the lean startup process that develops products together with customers at fast iterations is key. - We need to focus as much on how demand is created, not only on how the supply of innovation is fostered. - Develop better programs to pilot new technologies that can lead to procurement by larger entities (utilities, gov'ts, etc)- Accelerate and test technologies in countries where they are open to a new market opportunity and share learning amongst others
