Deltares is an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure. Throughout the world, we work on smart solutions, innovations and applications for people, environment and society. The department “Hydraulics for Infrastructure and Industry” (H2I) of Deltares is an international specialist group on fluid transients and advanced control of pipeline systems, working for the water industry, oil & gas industry and energy industry.
The Hydraulics for Infrastructure and Industry group of Deltares has a history of more than 50 years in providing services to the water industry around the world. These services include:• Research and development• Software development (WANDA)• Specialized consultancy• Training courses• Field measurements for commissioning and trouble shooting

Date and Venue
We believe that a thorough understanding of the hydrodynamic behaviour in a pipeline
system is essential to guarantee a low cost, safe and reliable system. With this course, we
will enhance your understanding of this hydrodynamic behaviour and teach you how to
perform a basic surge analysis yourself.
• Obtain thorough understanding of hydraulic aspects in pipelines• Learn to select and design mitigating measures to prevent excessive surge (water hammer)• Deepen knowledge on hydraulic processes leading to water hammer• Practice hydraulic modelling of pipelines
The following topics will be addressed:• Introduction to water hammer and mitigating measures• Modelling exercises and practical examples with WANDA• Theoretical aspects of water hammer and rigid columns• Effect of valve operations• Practical examples from participants
Temporary licenses for modelling software (WANDA) will be made available.
The course aims at engineers with different educational backgrounds (such as civil, mechanical, and process) working in the fields of the water industry (i.e. drinking water, wastewater and cooling water), the process industry (oil & gas) or the chemical industry. Deltares’ long experience with these courses has proven to have added value in particular to water utilities and consultants. A BSc degree in water engineering, engineering science, physics, or other scientific discipline is recommended
The course fee is € 1,450.-- for three days, excluding VAT.
