1 Bilbo
Owner: Peter Newman ( Cornwall ) Bilbo Surfboard - Newquay Cornwall ( Photo above ) 6'5" x 21&1/4" (wide point) x 2&3/4" No. 1106 Shaped by Pete 'Moony' McAllum (signed M on tail above the number) Fin - 3&1/2" base, 7" tall Reminiscent of a modern Egg shape Diamond tail Domed deck Pronounced nose flip Excellent original condition with beautiful resin swirl teardrop and great tint panels and pin lines . This board appeared on Antiques Roadshow on TV a few years ago.
2 Ocean Magic
Owner: Peter Newman
5'11" x 20". The Ocean Magic was shaped by GB & Euro champion Nigel Semmens about 1980.
3 Alias
Owner: Peter Newman
The Alias is 6'9" x 19 ¾ The Alias was made by Chris Jones & Roy Lenton in 1980 at their factory in White Cross, Newquay. CJ of course was chief shaper for Bilbo in the 60s & 70`s, and is still making his own CJ logo boards in Newquay today.
4 Bilbo
Owner: Tony Cope 8` 0" long Bilbo big wave board ( gun ), made about 1970-71. Red deck, green bottom, black pin lining. Shape is similar to Bob McTavish`s Australian `Tracker` boards. Has a 1960`s fin box, but the original owner had discarded the original fin & fitted a 70`s Bilbo `shark` fin, held in by two woodscrews (!). This fin has recently been fibre glassed into a 60`s Bilbo fin base, so it now fits into the original box properly ie., it won`t come out in the surf, but can be replaced at will with a 60`s Bilbo fin if required. 70`s Bilbo team rider & GB / European champion Roger Mansfield was shown this recently & said "That`s amazing, I`ve never seen anything like it before from Bilbo ". So - it`s rare ,
5 Gordon & Smith
Owner: Tony Cope
Gordon & Smith ( USA ) ` Gypsy Ryder` 6` 8" , blue deck, plain bottom, black pin lines . Made under license by Tiki in Braunton about 1970-71. The foam has collapsed in places ( as quite a few Tiki`s did in this era ) but it`s still a lovely shape and has attracted some recent interest from people looking for a wall- hanger. It`s also attracted a lot of interest in GB & also in Australia from collectors who want the fin & box ! This is because it`s a `WAVESET variable` installation, of which few now survive, as they were made of LEXAN, a material that often goes brittle over time. Offers of £50 have already been received for the fin & box alone.
