Our Credo ValuesThe values that guide our decision making are spelled out in Our Credo. Put

simply, Our Credo challenges us to put the needs and well-being of the people weservefirst.

Robert Wood Johnson, former chairman from 1932 to 1963 and a member of theCompanys founding family, crafted Our Credo himself in 1943, just before

Johnson & Johnson became a publicly traded company. This was long beforeanyone ever heard the term corporate social responsibility. Our Credo is more

than just a moral compass. We believe its a recipe for business success. The factthat Johnson & Johnson is one of only a handful of companies that have flourished

through more than a century of change is proof of that.

View the video to learn more about Our Credo and how it lives in theJohnson & Johnson Family of Companies today. Explore its history on our blog,

Kilmer House, named for Dr. Frederick Barnett Kilmer, the first scientific directorof Johnson & Johnson.

lives. Our products, services, ideas and giving now touch the lives of at least one

    billion people everyday.

We credit our strength and endurance to a consistent approach to managing ourbusiness, and to the character of our people. We are guided in everything we do byOur Credo, a management document authored more than 60 years ago by Robert

    The Promise of Health Care

As a member of the global health care community, we have a responsibility to

Issues Affecting Health Care SystemsNo two countries have the same health care systems, and local customs and

cultural values often play a role in how different health systems balance the

demands of providing care with those of cost, access, choice, quality and medical

advances. Learn more about some of the challenging issues facing health care

from differences among customers and employees present global issues. Eachcountry is experiencing demographic and societal trends that indicate the need forincreasing our diversity awareness and skills.

How is global diversity defined at Johnson & Johnson?Across the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, global diversity is defined asa variety of similar and different characteristics among people including age, gender, race, religion, national origin, physical ability, sexual orientation, thinkingstyle, background and all other attributes that make each person unique.

Do all differences matter? What if Im not in a diverse area?

The relevance of differences varies depending on the context, situation and

country. For example, individuals could be of the same ethnicity and gender, yet

their education, age and family status may differ significantly. These dissimilarities

may impact how the individuals relate to one another. Two very important

principles of diversity are that we do not exclude people based on differences and

that we do not allow differences to adversely impact our business decisions.

How does the broad definition affect us as employees?

The broad definition includes all of us. It recognizes that we all have differences

and similarities. Some of those differences are obvious some not so obvious. Some

hold more importance to us than others. The intent is to help us understand and

remove barriers that any of us may face due to our differences, and to leverage the

    advantages our diversity offers.

    Is diversity a Program?

No, diversity is not a program or series of events. Its an ongoing strategic process

companies. It is essential for our continued success as an organization.

Does your diversity initiative have the support from the top of the

It has support from our chairman and CEO, the Executive Committee, and senior

leadership throughout the enterprise. In fact, our chairman has mandated

  • 7/31/2019 Suraj Projectw

excellence in diversity, created a Global Office of Diversity and Inclusion, which

reports directly into him, and has provided resources to ensure that the Office of

Global Diversity and Inclusion achieves its vision.

What is required of managers regarding diversity?

Every manager is responsible for creating a workplace that is supportive of

employees and allows them the opportunity to succeed to the full extent of their

potential. Managers must educate themselves about diversity and combine that

knowledge with good management practices to ensure excellence in recruiting,

developing, promoting and retaining a diverse and inclusive workforce.

What is expected of an associate?

Every associate plays an important role in the success of diversity at the

Johnson & Johnson companies. Our diverse workforces require that all employees

help create an inclusive environment by demonstrating respect for one another,

    Perspectives on Medical Innovation

Research advances have led to more accurate diagnoses, less invasive treatments, shorter hospital stays, fewer side effects and longer lives. But research anddevelopment is not enough to guarantee new and better therapies in the future. Toensure that research continues, investments are needed by both private and publicentities. It is critical that companies conducting medical research operate in anenvironment that encourages and rewards investments in progress that addressesunmet medical needs.

    Investing in Medical Progress

New or improved treatments can help to improve and save lives. Continuinginvestments in research and development are essential if we want tomorrows careto be even better.

The Value of Innovation in New Products Approaches for Accessing New Medical Advances

    The Environment for Medical Progress

Medical progress also depends on policies that encourage research. Strongintellectual property and data protection laws, accurate ways to evaluate theeffectiveness of new treatments, robust and efficient regulatory and approvalprocesses, as well as adequate and fair reimbursement are all importantcomponents of an environment that encourages innovation.
