How it Works
Certification through the Green Business Partnership is a simple,
straightforward process:
1) Join online
2) Access and customize your company dashboard, and invite
employees to participate
3) Conduct an employee survey, complete the Green Action List and the
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory
4) Submit your Final Presentation
5) Achieve Green Business Certification (Woo-hoo!)
Pricing & Eligibility • Annual fee based on number of full-time employees
• Once certified, annual fee drops 50%
• Open to businesses of all sizes/industries that lease/own commercial/industrial space
10% discount for nonprofit organizations

What is NYGB?
• A free and voluntary green business program
run by DEC.
• Provides recognition and benefits for
businesses and other entities that operate in a
sustainable manner.
• Provides an incentive for businesses to not
only be in compliance, but to go beyond.Recognition Event at the Gideon Putnam

NYGB Program Goals1. To encourage a wider array of businesses in New York to adopt green
practices by realizing that sustainable operations:
• benefit the bottom line
• increase market share by attracting eco conscious consumers
2. Align with other state priorities, such as:
• Promoting the use of local products (Taste NY)
• Promoting assistance from the Pollution Prevention Institute
3. Increase consumer awareness of NYS green products/services on the
market

NYGB Application Process
• DEC holds an enrollment period each fall
▪ Usually August/September
▪ Lasts two months
• Applications will be reviewed by program
staff and a full compliance check will be done
on all applicants
• New members will be announced soon after

NYGB Entry Requirements
• Have a good record of compliance
• Have a written sustainability statement
• Make future sustainability commitments
• 2 for a small facility (fewer than 100
employees)
• 3 for a large facility (more than 100 employees)
• Communicate commitment to sustainability to
employees and customers
