Small Engine Repair Reference Center

Welcome to EBSCO’s Small Engine Repair Reference Center (SERRC) tutorial. SERRC provides users with detailed, yet user-friendly repair guides for all manner of small engines. In this tutorial, we will look at how to conduct searches from the Basic and Advanced Search screens, as well as how to Browse by Category.

We’ll begin by conducting a search in SERRC from the Basic Search screen. Enter your search term(s) in the Find field and click the Search button.

A result list is displayed. You can refine your results by using the limiters in the left-hand column. Click on a Full Text link to view the full text of the article, or click on an article title to view the Detailed Record for the article.

You can also browse SERRC content by category. Let’s begin by clicking the Motorcycles category.

SERRC will display a list of topics related to the Motorcycles category. Click a topic (for example, Harley Davidson) to expand a list of engine sub-topics. Continue to navigate through the hierarchy of Engine Sub-topics until you reach your desired topic (for example, click FXD Evolution, 1991-1998, then Brakes, then Front Brake Pads). Click the link to display the step-by-step instructional document.

The default screen is the Full-Text screen. From here, you can Print, E-mail, Save, Cite, or Export the document by clicking the corresponding icons under the Tools Menu, which appears on the right side of the screen. Or, click the Detailed Record screen to view citation information for the article.

SERRC also allows users to conduct an advanced search using a single find field or multiple find fields. Click the Advanced Search link below the Find field.

On the Advanced Search screen, enter your search terms in the Find fields. Use the Select a Field drop-down list to narrow your results by telling the database to search for your terms within specific fields, such as Title or Author. Use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to combine the two Find field entries. Click Search.
