Support for Clinical Research in Weight Management and Health Nutrisystem, Inc., a leading provider of structured meal programs for weight management, is pleased to support opportunities for investigators interested in performing a clinical study using one of our weight management programs. Multiple routes to support exist. Grants Administered by Nutrisystem 1. Sponsored Trials. A limited number of fully-sponsored clinical trials will be supported by the company. 2. Investigator-Initiated Grants. Investigators who wish to evaluate or otherwise incorporate Nutrisystem ® programs in clinical trials are invited to submit proposals at any time. 3. Nutrisystem Meals Grants. Managed by the company, these are non-monetary grants of Nutrisystem ® meals in support of clinical trials with alternative sources of funding. Studies supported by each of these mechanisms can range in scope from small pilot/feasibility investigations to large multi-site trials. Indirect costs will be covered in sponsored trials only. Applications for support through these mechanisms can be submitted at any time. Investigators are encouraged to submit a 1-2 page letter of intent prior to completing a full application for an Investigator-Initiated Grant or a Nutrisystem Meals Grant. Applicants must be TOS members. The request for proposals and application instructions can be found here. Study Design and Questions Preference will be given to randomized controlled studies using a complete Nutrisystem program. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: 1. Effects of weight loss using a Nutrisystem program on disease risk or management. 2. Effects of weight loss using the Nutrisystem ® D program on diabetes, pre-diabetes, or other relevant outcomes. 3. Role of Nutrisystem in the maintenance of weight and weight loss. Selection of Proposals Letters of intent will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and investigators will be informed, within 30 days of submission, whether a full proposal is requested. Full proposals for Nutrisystem-administered grants will be reviewed internally on the basis of scientific merit and alignment with Nutrisystem, Inc.’s commercial interests. Proposals for TOS-administered grants are independently reviewed and selected by the Scientific Review Committee of TOS. Investigators who would like to be notified when Sponsored Trials become available should contact Dr. Fabricatore. Data from all supported studies may be used to support claims for Nutrisystem programs. Institutions may be named in advertising as site location for the study only. Investigators are required to register all trials with ClinicalTrials.gov. About the Nutrisystem Weight Management Programs All Nutrisystem weight loss programs provide home delivery of shelf stable or frozen entrées, snacks, and desserts. These items, when complemented with grocery items including fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy items, result in structured meal plans that are hypo-caloric, portion-controlled, low in glycemic index, and consistent with national guidelines for nutrient delivery. Programs are broadly tailored to the needs of population subgroups, including women, men, persons with type 2 diabetes, vegetarians, and seniors. They can be further customized by the consumer in consultation with nutrition counselors by phone or online. The Nutrisystem structured meal plans are combined with educational support and monitoring tools to assist members in adopting long term healthy lifestyle habits. A weight maintenance program is available for those who achieve their target weight.
