Supply chain Case study Manufacturing OrganizationClient Profile

The company is focused on global distribution of materials and complex technical services for the production and man-ufacturing sectors in the aerospace industry. The company has global presence with a functioning network of compa-nies, branches and agencies. A sophisticated warehouse, logistics and information logistics system with central and branch warehouses provides the basis for rapid delivery with lowest-possible inventories. All customers receive their materials not only just in time, but in exactly the sizes and shapes they need, whether as one-off items or in large quantities.

GoalsThe Supply Chain partners have to offer an array of preci-sion processing services to improve cycle time and efficien-cy with cut-to-size, machine-ready material and shipped just-in-time for their clients.

Challenges

The existing applications/tools were not on an integrated platform, resulting in inefficient management of the manu-facturing and logistics processes. The Client needed an integrated solution for all the branches, covering the end-to-end supply chain process, along with seamless integration with their externally supported applications.

Idexcel Customer Case Study

Solution

The end-to-end solution implemented by Idexcel was designed to allow the company and its branches to collabo-rate on planning schedules, issue work orders, track work order changes, plan cutting jobs, manage finished item inventory (super market), exchange shipping information, track shipments, and manage inventory consumption, across the branches involved in the manufacturing process. The reporting capabilities have allowed client and its branches to track the overall performance of the supply chain process.

The solution was developed using Microsoft technologies WPF, WCF with MVVM architecture. Visual Studio 2010 with C# language on .Net framework 4.0 has been used to build the software components. SQL Server 2008 was used as the backend data storage. The user interface (UI) devel-oped with WPF, has been designed for improved user expe-rience, resulting in efficient data handling and user friendly navigations. On the server side, WCF technology has been used to develop the middleware layer (BAL, DAL) compo-nents, allowing easy future new developments. This solution has also been designed to integrate with SAP and other in-house engineering applications/tools that are used in their production process.

The Agile project management methodology was used to execute this project, involving creation of product backlog, sprints planning, release management and effective project communication.

Benefits

The client realized the following major benefits from the solution we implemented.

Eliminated latency in communicating demand/supply changes across multiple branches

Ensured continuity of supply and minimized supply disruptions through the real-time synchronization of demand with available supply

Improved on-time delivery to the end customer while minimizing logistics costs

Eliminated many of the manual activities associated with the manufacturing and logistics processes

Reporting and analysis for continued process improve-ment.

To facilitate effective collaboration, there must be a trust-ed, single source of truth to evaluate real-time perfor-mance across the branch network

Process automation with performance filters that allow management by exception and early identification of potential problems anywhere in the supply chain.
