Educational technology and eLearning represents one of the fastest growing industries in the world, with rapidgrowth from USD32 billion in 20101 to USD107 billion in 20152, and a forecast of USD423 billion by 20233. The three largest of these markets are China, India and the US. The Chinese online education market and userbase will maintain rapid growth, propelled by favourable policies and capital inflows, hitting an estimated RMB421.6billion (approx USD62billion), market value by 20214

The cause of this massive growth is simple — significant improvements in bandwidth, technology, adoption and affordability has dramatically enhanced the quality and accessibility of eLearning solutions; providing employers and educational institutions with a significantly more cost-effective and convenient medium of training.

And it’s not just the eLearning industry which isexperiencing exponential growth. Investment in theblockchain and AI industries is also at an all-time high and forecast in the trillions of dollars. However, the true value will come from the convergence of these industries and those solutions that enable the world to leverage the combined technological benefits in meaningful ways.

New possibilities for deriving value from tangible and intangible assets.include:

Enhancing existing infrastructure

Delivering significant cost-savings

Complex process automation

Ease-of-use through technological

interoperability

These solutions are capable of solving many issues across a broad range of industries. While the exponential growth of eLearning is impressive, the industry is also facing significant issues, including poor data breadth, validation and analysis, the lack of a universal reporting standard, a multitude of incompatible technologies (authoring tools, systems and content solutions), open and transparent marketplaces, difficulty incentivising learners, a lack of individual control over learning data and rampant qualification fraud.

Technologies

Journey provides interoperability between

eLearning standards, systems and tools, through

the addition of a Journey blockchain layer to current

eLearning infrastructure.

However, Journey can also be used as a stand-

alone solution for employers and institutions,

delivering substantial savings compared to

traditional learning management systems, while

also enabling many organisations to immediately

leverage their learning analytics.

JLX is the new technical standard in eLearning.

JLX has all the benefits of current standards (such

as SCORM and xAPI), but with added benefits of

blockchain and AI.

JOULS is the name of the blockchain token energising

the Journey ecosystem. JOULS enables Journey

decentralisation staking and node rewards, and is also

required for all transactions, use cases and incentivisation.

JAI is Journey’s AI and the first decentralised intelligence

with machine learning for workforce planning, leveraging

eLearning reporting standards and analytics. JAI analyses

JLX data to inform strategic operational decisions,

including talent management, resource allocation, robotic

automation, capability gaps and professional development.

Journey Ledger, in turn, provides authenticity of data,

auditability of AI decision-making, and predictive fraud

prevention for verification of qualifications.

Journey User Profiles are the centrepiece of the Journey

ecosystem. Users receive a unique wallet address and

identifier for the tracking, reporting and validation of all

learning activities. Users have full control over the privacy

of their data and who they allow to access their records.

The Journey Profile also enables one-click registration

for events and courses advertised via the Journey

Decentralised Marketplace, with all participation data

automatically validated

and recorded back to the user’s profile.

The JOULS Token

JOULS will be initially launched on the Ethereum Block-

chain as an ERC223-compatible token (which delivers

better security than ERC20, while maintaining backwards

compatibility). This will allow us to launch on major ex-

changes without needing to wait for exchanges to integrate

Journey Mainnet wallet protocols. Users are encouraged to

hold their JOULS in their wallets. Minimum JOULS thresh-

olds provide additional benefits, as well as higher amounts

earned for those operating JOULS nodes.

Users control and monetise their learning data, while

enabling employers, educational institutions and/or training

providers to incentivise learners.

JOULS will also be used by employers and organisations to

access JAI for significantly advanced AI analysis of work-

force data and other services, such as eLearning product

development and learning management system capability.

Journey analytics, in combination with JAI, will enable

organisations to take advantage of Big Data for better

informed strategic decision-making in workforce planning,

role evaluation, resource allocation, robotic automation,

talent management and professional development.

JOULS Appreciation

50% of all JOULS generated from transaction fees

are burned ongoing with the other 50% reinvested.

The CDR and MAE Funds are dedicated to

securing the long-term interests of participants

and contributors to Journey, including: marketing,

adoption, exchange listings, partnerships, etc.

Early adopters will be rewarded with additional

benefits, including priority access and discounts

for Journey marketplace events and courses,

higher staking/forging rewards, higher

incentives, etc.

Staking and forging rewards, thresholds and

seniority bonuses will encourage users to hold

their tokens, reducing the overall circulating

supply.

Journey Mainnet will enable educational organisations

and training solutions providers to develop their own

tokens and smart contracts, including a decentralised

marketplace for training services, eLearning product

development, DApp creation for digital training content,

conferences and events.

The Journey Mainnet launch will be followed by the

launch of EdX Market, the Journey Decentralised

Marketplace and Journey Social, allowing organisations

to integrate a social learning platform integrated with

the Journey blockchain as part of their eLearning

infrastructure — including features and benefits similar

to both Yammer and Steemit.

Journey Ledger Platform

The Journey Ledger ecosystem includes JAI, JLX & JOULS.

Journey commerce services for organisations include a

decentralised marketplace (EdX Market), Journey Social

and AI Learning analytics and recommendations.

Journey user profiles represent the learning journeys of all

individual participants in the Journey ecosystem, enabling

individuals to transact with JOULS and interact with all the

various services available.

Journey organisations act as learning event and

accreditation validators. They are also consumers of the

commerce services and are interested parties vested in

accessing individual user profiles, such as:

Educational institutions <> students

Employers <> employees
