Stage Descriptions SS1 Tawanui 24.87km AG & Auto Direct 50% public Rd, 50% Forestry The first section of this stage was last used in 2012. Starts fast, ends fast, lots of twisty slippery stuff in the middle. Sticking to the main forest roads, caution will still
be required. If it’s a frosty morning then there will be icy sections to test the nerves.
SS2 Puerua 29.13km South Roads
100% public Rd. From Hunt road into the Puerua Valley - fast and flowing, it includes the popular Romahapa spectator area and a section of road near the end never used in this direction before. Back to Owaka for service and a bite to eat.
SS3 Puaho 15.17km Lister Helicopters 100% public Rd, starts with a run up the Waikoato
Valley, then a twisty section mid stage before descending the Puaho. As SS1 last year it was a rude introduction to true winter rallying for most competitors, couple ended their rally down banks here, watch out for the hairpin!
SS4 Catlins Valley 27.13km Michael Kelly Auto Electrical / Yuasa Batteries
100% public Rd, Just over the bridge from SS3. Nice and flowing from Maclennan up and over the Moats Saddle, past the popular spectator point shown on the Rally Guide then into several tight twisty sections, slippery in places, before a fast finish down the Catlins Valley. Back into Owaka for a coffee and service.
SS5 Cannibal Bay 13.10km MRF / Palmside NZ 100% public Rd, The perennial favourite, no time to stop at the beach today. A new stage record set last year 8.22.4 by Andrew Graves and Jared Leebody in the EVO 3
SS6 Romahapa 40.03km Aon New Zealand
100% public Rd. The start was last used in 2012, then a road not used since the first Catlins in ‘99. Then back up the familiar Puerua Valley and down Hunt Road. Fast and flowing, it includes the Popular Katea spectator area, the brave will reap the rewards on this one.
