INSIDE Daily News 4 Groomer Schedule 40 Exhibitor List 56 Show Floor Map 66 BY KERRI DANSKIN T his year’s SuperZoo trade show, taking place from September 14 through 16 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, promises to be even larger than last year’s event, according to Doug Poindexter, presi- dent of the World Pet Association (WPA), which presents SuperZoo each year. Considering that last year’s attendee numbers showed an increase of 15 percent over the previous year, Poindexter said the growth this year is truly something to celebrate. The number of exhibitors at SuperZoo last year was down approxi- mately 4 percent over 2008, Poindex- ter said, but at press time he noted that this year’s numbers were already about 6 to 7 percent higher than that number. A total of 662 companies had signed up to exhibit, occupying 1,180 booths rep- resenting all segments of the pet industry. This year’s trade show to feature new educational seminars, grooming contests and more. INSIDE Daily News 3 Groomer Schedule 40 Exhibitor List 56 Show Floor Map 66 Veronique Michalik, owner of Lofty Dog, a pet specialty store in Austin, was named Pet Prod- uct New International’s 2010-2011 Retailer of the Year at the Jazz Pawzazz reception held last night at SuperZoo’s The Club. “Lofty Dog embodies the best that retailers have to offer pet owners,” said Pet Product News International editor Sherri Collins in presenting the award. “Veronique and her family have worked hard to establish the 3-year-old business as a downtown destination that is dedicated to making the lives of companion animals and their owners not only better, but more fun as well.” Lofty Dog caters to dogs and cats, offering a variety of products and services including adop- tion days, training workshops and nail trimming. As the winner, Michalik and her son, Ian, were flown to SuperZoo by the award’s sponsor, World Pet Association, which also provided free lodging during the family’s stay in Las Vegas. In addition to the award presentation, the event featured free food and drinks and a silent auction, sponsored by ET Horn, that benefited the Pet Care Trust’s Pets in the Classroom pro- gram and the Animal Cancer Foundation. Event sponsors, which included Pet Product News International and SuperZoo, gave away $600 in cash and three iPads as part of a raffle. This year’s SuperZoo trade show, taking

place from September 14 through 16 at

the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in

Las Vegas, promises to be even larger than last

year’s event, according to Doug Poindexter, presi-
