Dear readers,

"Boys will be Boys" is our motto this month. Our aim with this issue is to show how mul-tifaceted male-fashion can be.

We asked photographers from all over the world to send us their view on male-fashion. And our expectations were met. We received plenty of fashion editorials with a wide va-riety. We show eleven of them in this issue.

On top we got the fantastic opportunity for an editorial with the model-shooting-star STAS FEDYA-NIN. The Russian transgender-model presents both the male and the female personality at the same time - an exciting experience for our team. Due to the ex-citing model the shooting was accompanied by a television crew from RTL. You can watch the corres-ponding report at the RTL-mediathek.

Our October #SELECTION comes from Berlin based F95 The Fashion Store and presents four of their labels which is only a small selection of their wonderful labels.

Last but not least we made two interviews, of course related two menswear. One is with the menswear fa-shion designer SISSI GOETZE, the other with the fa-shion and furniture designer DANIEL KROH.

Interview with the designer Daniel Kroh

# How would you describe the philosophy of your label Daniel Kroh?

Every week in Germany, workers clothing is destroyed by the container load. After a hard working life and a maximum of 30 washes, work suits, painting smocks, and overalls are all just thrown away. The gar-ments usually end up being burned or shredded, or used for things like cleaning rags.

This is my raw material, it has already been work-ing hard, so I want to preserve that, those details, that energy that is so perceptible. Its special. Its practical. Its hard working re-tailored. And I work with my clients personally, creating custom garments to fit their per-sonality and everyday life. For me its fascinating how the old stories within the work material get overlaid by my customers new stories.

# Tell us a little bit more about your way to establish your label.

At ReCLOTHINGS two threads are constantly com-bined, craft and design. I started out as an apprentice in a mens tailor at Thalia Theatre in Hamburg, where

- naturally - solid craftsmanship comes together with artistic expression. After that I studied Fashion Design at the HTW Berlin, where I created on my own initiative uniforms for the university cooks. As a result a textile renting company employed me as a designer. This is when I noticed all this discarded material, which was the initial spark for ReCLOTHINGS. So, in 2006 the label was founded.

# What does "ReCLOTHINGS" exactly mean?

ReCLOTHINGS are individual design pieces from worn out work-wear, transformed into contemporary fashion and furnishing. Worn areas or paint stains on the raw material are deliberately integrated as design elements to lend each piece a personalised note. Gla-ziers rest windowpanes on their upper legs, which cre-ates fine slits. Painters create a work of art on their overalls. Embers land on a welders clothing. These moments - these traces of life - are things that I want to preserve. My design is distinguished by expressive lines, robust sturdy textiles and one of a kind interpre-tations of cut outsmy finest fillets of wear and tear.

# Part of your concept is work also as a furniture designer. Why? How do you combine both, fashion and furniture?

These textiles have a lot of potential. One of their best qualities is their extreme resilience. And I want-ed to explore that. So, in collaboration with the Vien-na-based design studio, Walking Chair, Ive been devel-oping the Hard Working Furniture line. Finding new forms and seams for furniture is a great challenge. # You decided deliberately to design clothing for men. Why?

This came naturally during university. It is simply more interesting for me to design menswear. It suits my approach to design better.

# We do not find so many women who design mens-wear. Is it necessary for a woman to have a special tal-ent for designing menswear?

I never thought about that when I started. And now everybody is asking me about it. No one ever asks a man doing womenswear if he needs a special talent. But there is one important thing you always have to keep in mind, as my tutor Peter Jensen at Saint Mar-tins always said, just make sure to leave enough space for the balls.

SISSI GOETZE is a German fashion desiger for menswear, based in Berlin. She gradu-ated with a diploma in fashion design from HTW Berlin and a MA in menswear from Cen-tral Saint Martins College in London. After showing her first collection at London Fash-ion Week in 2010 her career went straight up - shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and finalist at the "Start Your Own Fashion Business" contest.

# How would you describe the typical Sissi Goetze Look? What makes your fashion distinctive?

My characteristic style is based on the interplay of seemingly contradictory aspects of mens fashion. In addition I created this special cut for all tops, half rag-lan/half classic sleeve, which gives a smooth, but dis-tinctive shoulder at once. It is translated into all kind of garments, whether it is a simple t-shirt, a bomber jack-et or a classic coat.

# Have you got a favourite outfit from your last col-lections?

Look No 1, the black bomber jacket with the black high-waist Shorts and grey Shirt plus black tie and black cap.

# Your process of creating a new collection... How can we imagine your typical design steps is the sequence always the same? And what inspires you for a new fashion line?

The sequence is pretty much the same all the time. Because it is more like a coherent study what I am doing. There is a common thread running through all of my collections so far. But the inspirations are dif-ferent. Although there are pictures that can inspire me over and over again with a total different outcome.

Pretty important is, that I am always attracted to two poles. On the one hand a cool, hard-boiled street-wise guy like Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley. On the other hand a decent, buttoned up, almost nerdy kind of guy like Superman's Clark Kent. You will always find these two themes combined in my collections.

# The fashion business is pretty hard. Relating to your own experiences, what do you think about it? Is it dif-ficult to establish yourself with an own fashion label?

Definitely! You have learned being a good designer over the years. But no one really told you how the busi-ness side works. Being a good designer does not nec-essarily mean to establish a successful label.

# You have taken part in the contest 'Start your Fash-ion Business'. Do you think, your participation in this event was important for your career as a fashion designer?

As a Berlin based designer certainly yes. Because they are trying to support me in addition to the price with several things like business consulting, workshops etc.

# In spite of the fact you are a designer for menswear, do you also design clothes for yourself?

Never. I don't have time for that. I'd rather ask friends like Hien Le or Issever Bahri for a piece from their collections once in a while.

# Your opinion about trends? Is it important to you, to follow them or do you create your own trends of the season?

I don't think I follow trends. My design process is pretty coherent. Each new collection develops from the previous one and therefore avoids orientation along short-lived trends. I make clothes that seem relevant to me at that time.

# Finally two personal questions: How does a fashion designer like you spend her spare time, when she isn't working at the sewing machine?

Meeting up with friends.

# And do you enjoy living in Berlin or are you already thinking about moving to somewhere else?

Most of the time I really enjoy living here. A lot of my friends are here. Sometimes I miss London, though. But at the moment there is no point moving somewhere else as I started to establish my label here.
