BRIEF HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION

Oriental Carpets have been collected for more than five hundred years, for reasons relating to power, prestige,

wealth, holiness and more recently, art. These reasons have changed little over the years and in recent times interest in the field has exploded! In addition to their utilitarian and symbolic functions, carpets of a certain

“pedigree” have been considered as great works of art and this appears to be the most important reason for the

sustained history of carpet collecting over the years. This resulted in the discovery of certain “collectible”

carpets made in the renaissance period of the late 20th Century to the early 21st Century.

History has indicated that the renaissance influence in Pakistan was a result of Persian Artisans who were

brought in to the Royal Courts to produce carpets of a certain quality. Such influence eventually led to the setting up of workshops in Lahore and Karachi. Artisans who were trained by their Persian counterparts began

weaving designs of a certain caliber and in essence, this Pakistan Persian design is an example of such a

production. The quality of this carpet is categorized as the most collectible of all the Princess Bokhara Carpets. It

was made under the auspices of Hassan’s Carpets, specially commissioned for the 50th Independence Day of

Pakistan in 1997. This quality is no longer in production and is now considered as an extremely rare and

collectible work of art.

Rugs are an art form for the sense of touch as well as sight, a knowledge of how rugs are constructed is vital for

the deep understanding of their artistry and origins, and in the end there is no adequate substitute for the direct

experience one would attain by simply handling and enjoying its aura of brilliance as well as the opulence and

grace.

An excellent acquisition, mint in condition and a true collector’s piece worthy of the collection of the most discerning eye.
